What you can do is this...In order to be able to buy a car on credit, look at it from the creditors point of view... First you want to assess your debt to income ratio. What are your living expenses compared to your income? Living at home with the parents can sometimes not be so good in all situations. If you are living on your own and you have $1400 of income and $1000 in rent and other expenses, this is also not good. What do you consider a decent car payment? $200?, $300?, $400?. Before you decide on a particular vehicle, contact your insurance agent. You will have to have the vehicle insured with comprehensive and collision insurance, which can be hefty in and of itself when you are 18, and this will need to be paid every month just like your auto loan, and is not included but on top of the loan amount.
Take your parents with you when going to negotiate...they might be needed as a co-signer. Some manufacturers offer first time buyer programs ( and some to new college graduates) if you meet certain criteria. Be prepared to need a substantial down payment.
Good luck. |

Go to your bank and ask for a starter loan. That is a loan specifically designed to establish credit. |

Look for a used car. Get a co-signer. Save and have a nice downpayment for the car first. |

if you have any money in savings you're going to have to go to the bank and ask to borrow against your own money. say you have $1,500 in the bank. They freeze that amount and give you $1,500 of their money. You set up payment arrangements example $100 a month. Every time you make a payment that much of your money becomes avail to you and paying on time build your credit. Plus banks have auto programs.
Also i got two of my cars this way if you have any friends in the military. Every base has whats called the lemon lot.
for military folks getting stationed other places that they cant bring their car, so they bring them to a designated lot on base for other people to look at. Don't let the name lemon lot fool you there's lots of good bikes and cars and trucks out there for a bargain (remember these folks are desperate so you can talk them down pretty good. They ship/fly out soon, and won't have anyone behind 2 sell for them) You just have 2 get someone one with an id 2 get you on base. **you only deal with the owner of the car (they leave their contact info on the car) |

You'll need a cosigner. Building up credit is a gradual process. Start with one credit card (secured, if necessary), make small purchases and pay in full each month. Credit is all about establishing a track record. |

Get a savings account with a local credit union and have money automated deducted from your paycheck to get a history started. Credit Unions are the best way to go when financing a car, my mom got a car at 6% interest through her credit union and my husband got a personl loan at 8% interest...Good luck |
