Get a secured credit card or if one of your parents has a credit card with a good payment history? Ask if they will add you as a authorized user.

You don't even have to ever touch the card. What will happen is the good payment history will appear on your credit and after 5-6 months your score will go up considerably and you can then get a decent card of your own.

You can start by getting a pre paid credit card. I started buying books and cd's through the mail. That might help you.

A couple of suggestions are, try for a store credit card, (Sears, Penny's etc) or go to your bank, where you have your checking account or savings account. See if you can get a small loan, then make sure you pay it back, ON TIME. You may have to do this more than once, but if you are diligent in paying everything back, on time, you will be able to get one.

I had the same problem when I first moved here. I couldn't even get an apartment. I was lucky that I found my first landlord who understood my situation, since it was similar to his, and I was able to start renting a place. I got a bank account set up, and was denied all sorts of credit cards, I think I tried about 5, before I was told about secured credit cards through my bank. The way those work, they take money out of your bank account and hold it, as collateral for your credit card payment, so if you default on a payment, they can use your money that they have, to pay for it. I did that, I put $1,000 towards my card, and then after a while, they upped my spending limit, to $1200 first, then $1500, and then after about two or three years they unsecured my credit card, and I got back my $1000 (or did they use it to pay off the balance on my card?? I can't remember.) Now I have a $2000 limit on an unsecured card. I also had a hard time buying a car without credit, but I was lucky, a friend of mine, her husband co-signed for me, so his name was on the title together with mine, but I paid it off. I still don't have a lot of credit, with one car paid off and one line of credit on a card, but something is better than nothing. Just slowly try building your credit, pay bills in a timely manner, try not to get overdrafts on your bank account, and you'll do fine. Good luck.

You can go for a credit card fast. Try to pay the bills on time and it will help to build up your credit.

Try store credit cards to start. They will generally open an account quite easily with a very low limit--maybe $100-$200. Then buy small amounts, pay off every month, and get another card and do the same thing. In a short time, you can get a secured Visa account if you're in a rush, or wait until you've built good enough credit to qualify without a secured card.

Best credit is money in the bank.
No interest or late payments.

Credit is a scam

The Not-Know It All
Have you asked your parents to co-sign with you? I had to do this for my first credit card. We agreed on making the limit low (like $300) but after a year of paying it off every month, it really helped.
