Go to a credit union and open a savings account, then borrow against it and make the payments. You will earn intrest on the money you deposit and get credit history as well. |

Yes DROC is correct, I did the same thing 4 times before I could borrow money with no collateral. Apply for a target card and maybe a credit card with a small credit line. Do not ever be late on your payments. That will surly mess you up. Be responsible. |

If you will go to www.lowermybills.com you will find a tool for comparing the various credit cards - and their sources. Many different banking institutions offer the several brands of credit cards, and some offer better terms than do others; so a Visa from one source might have a better rate or benefits than a Visa from another source.
I've seen lots of young people on Yahoo Answers recommend Old Orchard Bank as a very student-friendly credit card source. You may want to check that out. Pulaski Bank is another bank that offers a good rate for its Visa card.
My best advice is to find a card that offers a FIXED rate of interest. Failing that, see what kind of deal your own bank can offer you on a credit or debit card. How you manage your checking account, any loan against a savings account (you can borrow up to 90% of its balance), and your student loan are sufficient to develop a credit rating.
Be very wary of Wells Fargo's bank accounts; many have hidden traps for the unwary student - particularly its overdraft protection feature. My granddaughter wound up owing $208 she didn't even know she owed. Just be careful. |

I read through the answers you already received. They all contain good advice.
One thing they all seemed to have missed is "don't just pay the minimum amount due". If you do that it will take years to pay off the balance. The minimum usually is the interest plus a small amount. Try not to put a lot on the card. I know these days that is very hard, especially with the cost of gas.
Good Luck. |

The only way to build credit is to borrow money and make payments on time. The only way to keep a high score is to keep borrowing money and keep making payments on time.
"Building Credit" is the biggest joke of the 21st century! |

Most banks have a first time credit card you can look into. My bank had a 0% interest rate for the 1st six months, $1000 credit limit that was geared towards college students. I was rejected for the better card, but easily got this one.
The best way to get credit is to stay within your means and pay it off. When I got my credit card my junior year, I used it to get coffee on the way to work for each month. My credit card bill was $60/month, and I had no problem paying it off each month.
Since you have no credit, getting a "good" credit card may be problematic, but all credit cards (if you ignore points, etc) act the same if you pay them off in full each month.
Another way to get good credit is to pay off any other bills you have, like your cell phone bill. You also develop credit by taking out student loans as well.
Don't go crazy on the credit cards though. That will kill your credit, and it is harder to recover from bad credit than to start on the right foot in the first place. Your card should not be used as a way to float your lifestyle now that your income has dropped due to less hours. |

This is really smart of you. I wish I was like you when I was your age. I'm 23 and my credit is messed up. My advice to you is "Pay your bills on time and pay them off". Do not get a credit card and use it on stupid things. If you get a credit card, make sure whatever you purchase is extremely important and at least pay the minimum payment due each month. **Good luck** |

Pick a card with low interest if possible 29.9 is bad, has either low membership fee or no membership fee and spend only a small amt per month in which you can easily pay back. Capital One is an excellent card I have 3 credit cards with them and an auto loan, can't be more of a devoted customer than that. |

Try applying for a Master Card or Visa at a Credit Union because the interest rates are lower there. Or apply at your Bank. Make sure the interest rate isn't high like 18% or higher. A good rate would be 12% if you can get one lower, good for you. College students can get credit cards without having a credit history. |

The credit card type doesn't matter except the visa debit cards don't count as credit since they aren't actually credit cards. Store or gas cards are good. Just be careful VERY careful not to use them more than you can pay off easily..like right when the bills come. Never use them to buy something because you cant afford it. |

There are few options available for you as far as credit cards are concerned. Its better to check out the site below instead of me pasting everything here. See their student card section. |

Approach the bank and ask for a secured credit card. Use the card regularly and pay off the balance at the end of each month. With no time, you will build a credit history.

Personally I'm a fan of Visa cause everywhere takes it. Check out their website and kinda look around for the best interest rate you can get. Also, pay off your credit card every month. Don't spend more than you can pay off. If you overspend on your card it can really hurt your credit so be careful. |
