How can I get rid of my credit card debt?
I had a good job for a while and being stupid I charged my college tuition ($9,000) onto credit cards thinking I will pay it off within a few months. Its been more than a year an my credit card balance is now up to 12,000. I'm paying close to 250-300 just on interested every month. Is there anway I can like just wipe it out like with a zero interest student loan or something like that. I can afford to make payments of up to 700 to 800 a month, but I just feel like it is all just going to waste paying interest.

Unfortunately for you, even if you declare bankruptcy, your student loans don't qualify...
Although credit card debts can be wiped out like that, they will find out you charged your student loans and they wont clear those...
Also you have to prove you can't pay when declaring bankruptcy...
Like if you were disabled, or out of work...
By the way, if you can afford to pay, then I advise you to pay more than the minimum balance you owe...
Paying a larger amount will cut down on the interest...

Sounds like you are trying to borrow your way out of debt. Won't work.
Stop using credit and put all your resources toward paying down your debt.

If a person has accumulated a large amount of credit card debt due to multiple credit cards, the need for a proper counseling for credit card debt consolidation can't be understated. Credit card debt consolidation counseling helps a person get vital insights into the facts that can help him get control over the credit card debt.

Credit card debt consolidation counselors are experts with a good knowledge of debt management, budgeting and behavioral patterns of credit card holders. These services are vital for those struggling to manage their credit card debts. Also called credit counseling or debt counseling the credit card debt consolidation counseling brings immediate relief to a credit card holder.

A person seeking credit counseling can get it from two types of organizations. The professional or commercial organizations, and the non-profit organizations. As depicted by its name or categorization, the commercial organizations charge money for their credit counseling sessions and consolidation help on the other hand the non-profit organizations offer free of charge services. Just because the non-profit organizations are free, it doesn't undermine their quality of service. The persons associated with such organizations are thorough experts and have lived the trauma of being under credit card debt themselves and hence bring their vital experience to the credit card holder.

First, call your credit card company and ask them what is the best interest rate that they can give you as you are going to transfer your account to a company that has a more favorable rate. Call the other companies and find out what they can do for you.

Secondly, get out the scissors and cut that damn card into little pieces.

Thirdly, set up a payment plan with yourself to pay $800 a month no matter what. Let's say you have good negotiating skills and you can get a 12% APR on a balance of $12,000 then it should take you less than 17 months to pay this card off and if you can't get a lower rate it will take a little longer, 20 mos or so if you stick to your payment plan

What you don't need is more debt so stay away from more loans and whatever you do don't get talked into taking a loan on your house or other type of collateral loan. You never want to back up an unsecured loan with a secured loan. Just make a plan and stick to it. No excuses.

Simple
Stop adding to your debt, stop accumulating increased interest debt.
Stop using your charge cards, mail them back to where they came from
Pay a lot more than the minimum payment requirement, that way you won't be paying just the interest.
You said you were paying 250, if you pay 700 it will be paid off 3 times faster WON'T IT

well you can either ring them up and explain that you cant afford that amount and offer them a lower payment and also ask them to freeze the interest so whatever you pay will come off your balance and they do do this for you this means you wont get any interest put on at all,or you could tranfare to another credit card with 0% interest for 12 months or so until you are better off and you can still be paying what you can afford i have been there and they helped me
good luck hope everything goes well for you

Taking a loan out to pay a loan is normally a common mistake. But if the credit cards have terrible rates, then maybe consolidate and take a personal loan with a decent APR.

adubka
well, at 250/month, that means you are paying 25% interest, which is about the max Ive ever seen. I would get a new credit card with a 0% interest rate for the first year on balance transfers and try to get as much paid off as possible in the first year

Go to a credit counselor, They really help you. I'd steer clear of the ones you see on television. Most of those are no help at all.

Call the credit card company, tell them your situation, and ask them to set up a payment plan. Tell them that you are able to pay x amount a month and want to pay it off in full, but that with their extra fees that's not possible. Many will waive extra interest and fees (and some will reduce the debt amount) that accumulate because they know that the alternative is that the debt goes delinquent and they don't get paid (and your credit is shot). If that doesn't work, try getting a bank loan (promising them that the card has since been cut up). If you own a home, take out a low interest equity loan. Good luck to you.

You are paying way too much money for interest. Do 1 of 2 things. Call your credit card company and insist they lower your interest. Tell them if they don't you are switching to another credit card company. They will listen. If you dont want to do that, then find a credit card that has low interest when you do a transfer. You can find a good card on bankrate.com.
Do it now!!!

Ns
well my suggestion is go to credit card company. tell them you need to pay it off your cc bill in three months. but i cant pay intrest. negotiate with them , if not for the first time second time, they will waive your part or full intrest . This usually happens when you are paying off your debts.

They want you to keep in debt , because they want to make money. but if you can pay off full go and negotiate and they will waive your intrest.

i know that works and had worked for many people i know. but irritate them asking the same thing.

look around for a 0% interest card that you can transfer your debt to, or at least a lower interest one. You can find ones that will do a very low or 0% introductory rate.

Or you can take out a loan for a low interest to pay that off, so you can have a lower interest payment. Sounds like you have a high interest rate on that card.

i think you need to climb the job ladder otherwise you're gonna be in a lot of trouble
try seeking professional assistance

open a new credit card and pay off the old. At least for one month or more you pay no interest. While shopping for the new, look for those that offer NO INTEREST for a year--that is a common promo now a days.

Prophet 1102
You can't do much after the fact. Once you start working again, you might want to take out a personal loan to get a better interest rate.

For everybody else out there, take a student loan, don't charge tuition when you don't have a means of paying it off.

answering machine
pay them bit by bit if you cant pay them in 1 go or get a loan from your bank its less interest than your card company

How To Slay That Dragon:

YES, do the 700 to 800 a month payments. Only the first part of a payment goes to interest. The rest goes to what you actually owe.

I was paying off exactly $19,000 on a damn 15 year payment plan at $208 per month. Screw that. I sent them $700+ per month and I was done in 3 years. Even if you find a way to transfer it, no matter where it is or what the rate is, do $700 payments and you will kill this dragon.

I LOVE credit stuff and questions and answers. Here is one of my favorite sound bytes from a financial guru.

My answer if you can get a loan and pay for your debt. Once you get a job that pays a lot pay off the loan.
