You have to prove that the item(s) are wrong (i.e. misreported by the creditor) or fraud (i.e. someone stole your identity). Aside from those, reported items fall off over time.

After seven years creditors are removed but, if it's something you can show all proof for u can have it removed but u have to go through a lot of drama just to verify your own credit info. Lawyer and all. I had a few things on my credit someone used my ss# I had to go through so much just to prove it was me it's crazy how the law is. It's easy for someone to use your credit but a hassle for u to remove it.

Runs with Scissors
There are three main credit repositories, Trans Union, Experian, and Equifax. You need to write all three of them disputing the negative reports on your credit. You may also cc the company that is reporting you. But be careful in doing this, if the debts are valid, the companies reporting the debts care reopen you case and keep it on your credit report longer, this is not legal, but it happens. A better way to get it removed is call the companies that are reporting you and offer a settlement sometimes you can settle for pennies on the dollar. That way it shows the debt as satisfied on your report.

if its an collection or charge off account then you can make a deal with the agency that you will pay it if they agree to stop reporting it to the credit bureaus and remove it from your credit report. Other things like bankruptcy or foreclosure, cant help ya on that one!

Go to the credit reporting agency's website that has the misreported information. Underneath their questions, they supply you with the steps for removing it from the report. Usually the first step is to go the the company that put it on there in the first place and ask for it to be removed. If that fails you need to fill out paperwork for the credit reporting agency, etc...It can take quite a while to get it removed too.

You can dispute items online with each of the three main credit bureaus. The online dispute process is fast and easy. As a matter of fact, your explanation is limited to only a few sentences to keep the process fast and easy.

You can generally do anything on your own that a credit repair company can do. If you do choose to use a credit repair company, make sure that they are in good standing with the Better Business Bureau.

There are only two ways that a negative listing can be removed from your credit report.

1) The creditor must delete it himself

2) The creditor fails to respond to an investigation request from the credit reporting agency.

If the listing is "fair and accurate" there is absolutely nothing that you can do to get it removed. If the creditor "verifies" the debt then by law it must stay on your report for the whole 7 year reporting period.

But there are still ways......read #1 above again.

Basically, you pay off the creditor by paying off your debt and/or paying an additional fee to get the creditor to delete the listing. OK, call it a bribe. Some "credit repair" agencies may try going this, but you really don't need to hire one of them to do it. You can negotiate this yourself.

Bad Credit Repair Defining The Problem
By: Alexis Dey

This article helped me with my credit issues. But, I also found out that if you dispute in November you'll have a better chance that it will be removed due to the busy time of the season. Anyhow, this site has a lot of good information!

You should have paid your bills on time the first time. only time will make your negative credit "go away" unless it it fraudulent then you contact the three credit bureaus.

First you must prove that the accounts are incorrect, if you have proof then that's even better. If they can't verify the information on the report then they must delete it by law. And that really work I just disputed something with equifax last week and got a letter today were they removed the it and I know it was removed because they also sent an updated credit report. Also if it is seven yrs old then it must be deleted by law. Be sure you're correct about disputed items then send them a letter asking for an investigation.

If the mark is wrong, and you can prove it, it will come off. If it is not wrong, you might as well just grin and bear it. Bad marks stay for 7 years, and bankruptcies, 10.

If you know it can be done by you, then you should already know how to do it..... So figure it out and quit wasting our space...

YOU can't. Someone else can though.

sgoldperson
Contact a lawyer. Even if you can prove it is fraud you will have a hard time getting it removed on your own. Just like they have been known to keep bankruptcies on longer then they are supposed to, but most people don't keep track of their credit report to REALIZE it is still on there. Anyway credit companies are basically run by lawyers so you need one of your own to really talk to them and get things removed.
