How can I take advantage of having good credit?
I live in SoCal/housing is too expensive to consider purchasing at this time but I have good credit- what else can I do to take advantage of this and remain responsible?

My conservative answer is this: open credit lines with the lowest rate you can negotiate now. They will be there for you in the future when you need to borrow money. In the meantime, save as much money as possible and when you do use credit, use it only to buy things that are either investments or necessary expenses. Resist the temptation to run up your debt to "build your credit" or "because you have good credit." Pay off high interest loans with cash or transfer them to lower interest accounts.

dont ruin it! get rid of any plastic debt you have and keep asking for the increases every 6 months. keep paying your bills on time. also living in an apartment is still great! you only pay RENT. with a home you pay 1) a mortgage 2) insurance 3) taxes
now's the time for you to be saving your butt off!

Get a credit card that has 0% interest for a year, then deposit that money in an account. Don't touch the money, just pay it off at the end. If it calls for a monthly payment take it out of the deposit each month. Make money on their money for once!

Just keep the credit rating good and relax! The housing market always goes up and down.Who knows , in a years time you may be ready to enter the market and will need all the help you can get!

Definitely do NOT co-sign a loan for anyone...keep your good credit and build it up to an excellent credit by paying off your debts on time, and start saving for a down payment. Since you are waiting a good time to purchase at this moment any way. Good luck in purchase a home in a short future.

Sadly, the advantage of good credit is only an advantage when you don't have any money. The system was built entirely for America's high consumption lifestyle and only encourages spending which never leads to any real advantage in life. So in other words, the only advantage of having good credit now means that you can spend it and get poorer even faster.

Other ways to use your credit? Well, it can help you land a good job under some conditions.
