How can i find out why i was refused credit?
i've got a credit report from experian but that still dosen't answer my question, as all that says is that i make all payments on time, is the another company that can be a bit more acurate?

Your credit report is not the sole criteria as to whether you are accepted for credit. It is also down to the individual bank/finance companies own criteria. They will have their own credit policy, usually built on experience from their existing customers (eg if a higher percentage of 18-23 years are defaulting on their loans, they will make it harder for 18-23 years olds to get loans). Companies range from prime lenders (lend only to home owners, proven histories, certain age, good repayment capacity) to sub prime (will lend to just about anyone including those with county court judgements, poor credit history etc with every shade in between. The more Prime a lender, generally the better the rate (as they will have to deal with less defaults and bad debt), whereas sub-prime lenders charge extortionate rates that effectively subsidise those customers that don't pay.

Don't take it to heart - if you have a clean history, there will be plenty of other quality lenders who would like you as a customer

The company that denied you credit has to supply you with the name of the credit bureau they used. You can then receive a free report from that credit bureau. However, just because you pay on time doesn't mean they will extend you credit. They can deny if your income to debt ratio is too high. So even if you pay on time, but you owe alot of people, they can turn you down. The company should also disclose if you request it in writing, the reason they turned you down.

Who refused you? ask them. It seems they may have different criteria other than the Credit Report?

Lending you money is based on 3 C's : Character; Credit and Capacity.

Your character is based on whether you own or rent your home, how long you've lived there, how long you've been in the area, and the type of occupation (Doctor versus waiter), and how long you've had the occupation.

Your Credit is from your Credit report. They will look at what loans you now have, how long they have been opened and the purpose of the loans.

Capacity is based on your income and your current expenses. The total of your debt payments is tested against the income you have to pay these, each month. Also considered is payment on any new loan for which you are applying.

Finally, remember to capitalize the word "I".

I let my son move into my house as I had bought another following the death of my mother. I had post redirected for 2 months, However letters still arrived at my old address and my son failed to give them to me. When I visited he handed me me a huge bunch of correspondence including about 8 from my Monsoon account to say I owed £15+ which I immediately paid following a phone call to explain circumstances. I have recently been turned down for a John Lewis Card for being a bad risk.

the company that refused you the credit HAS to send you their reason within 30 days, its the law. You'll get a letter with their explanation.

You need to get all 3 credit reports.

Sometimes the other bureaus report incorrect info on your file, and you may be denied credit if the creditor uses that agency for credit decisions.
Good luck.

Anytime you are refused credit from someone they have to give you a report by your request which will show your credit history.

Normally with the refusal of credit you get a paper or sheet saying you were refused credit after a credit report was run. At the bottom of the page, which might be in small print, is an address you can write to and you have so many days to do so to get that free report.

Were there any derogatory remarks? Do you have multiple revolving accounts or too many high balances?
Usually if you are denied credit, you are sent a copy of your report with some explanation. Late pays, slow pays?
It might be important to look at your other reports.
Sometimes people have been victims of ID theft and it only shows up on one or two reports.
If you need or want ID theft protection with a restoration component, feel free to contact me. I have a business helping people with such things.
Best of luck and don't ignore your problem as it's important to keep a close eye on credit.
