How can i go about rebuilding my credit to raise my credit score?

The Foosaaaah
Buy on credit and make your payments on time.

It's me
Look into one of the websites they have about building credit. There are many facets to the credit building game. Utilization ratios, debt to income ratios, and other various calculations.

Holes in the Soles
Make more than minimum payments.

Reduce your credit/money owed ratio. One easy way to show that you are responsible with credit is to show that you don't max out any and every card you're given. Having multiple cards with a zero (or close to zero) balance and high credit limit will raise your score.

Therefore do NOT cancel unused credit card accounts if possible. The unused (zero-balance) accounts will add to your score.

Studly
Read the links below.

In a nutshell:

Get your credit report from -www.annualcreditreports.com
-Note any errors and negative reports
-Send the bureau a letter demanding they either fix the errors or remove the negative reports.
-Send a letter requesting the creditor validate the debt.

All the info you need is in the links below.

Don't listen to anyone else but Studly.

Do as he says about getting your credit reports.

When you say rebuilding your credit I am assuming that you mean your credit has been "bad" and you want to repair/add new positive credit.

There are different strategies based on what you are trying to correct(bankruptcy, judgment, collection, late payments, etc). Post a more specific questions and either I or Studly can help.

Good Luck

get a small loan (ex $200.oo) from your bank. where u only pay 20-30 dollars a month but use the loan money to pay it back. Your credit should go up if u pay the bill on time

Omy
Well, to have credit you need credit, so you cant toss all your credit cards away. Keep one credit card...make a small purchase, one that you can pay off as soon as the bill comes in. Keep doing this for a while and you'll start building up a good credit rate. Try not to make late payments, if you know you wont have the money, then don't make the purchase. Don't file for bankruptcy, this stays on your record for about 10 years, and it makes it hard for you to make major purchases like a home or car. If you owe some banks money, give them a call and make a deal with them, they would rather make a deal with you to repay them back a partial amount, rather than you not pay them at all. Don't open too many credit accounts, this goes against your score as well.

Buy a car. Make sure your payments are on time and affordable, but make sure they report to the credit bureaus.

IamConfused
1. How you pay your bill (35% of the score)
--> Pay your bill on time
2. Amount of money you owe and the amount of available credit (30 percent)
--> Try to pay off ur debt
3. Length of Credit History (15%)
--> Dont cancel your old credit card
4. Mix of Credit (10%)
--> Ehhhh....
5. New Credit Application (10%)
--> New inquiry or too many inquries will hurt ur score

If you are coming out of a bankruptcy or have no credit cards, accept the next credit card offer you receive. Don't be concerned about the interest rate but be sure and check if there is an annual service charge and a minimum monthly finance charge. Make sure you can afford these charges if they do apply. If the charges seem excessive, wait for the next offer you receive. Use this card at least once a month and pay the balance in full when it comes due. Never charge more than you can afford to pay in one month. Use it to pay for things you normally pay cash for such as groceries, gasoline, etc. Just make sure you keep this cash you are saving to pay your credit card bill when it arrives. After several months, accept another card and follow the same plan.

Do not buy a new car...you will pay a very high interest rate for the entire life of the loan thus over paying for the vehicle. You don't want to pay more than you have to as automobiles are generally not your best investment to begin with. If you are in need of transportation, consider buying an inexpensive used car. If at all possible, use a co-signer and secure a small loan at your bank. If you choose to do a buy here, pay here plan, make sure they report to your local credit bureau or your efforts will have been in vain. Keep in mind also, with a buy here, pay here plan, you will be paying an even higher interest rate, so keep your purchase price down.

One final suggestion...if you have a cell phone and you pay your monthly bill in a timely manner, ask them to report your payment history to the credit bureau. Most cellular companies only report derogatory information. They do have the means to report the positive so be sure in inquire if they are doing so.

Good luck!

There are several ways. One of the first things you need to do is to obtain a copy of your credit report. If you have no credit, you need to obtain a credit card or make a purchase which will help you to establish a pay history. If you bounce from job to job, you need to establish job stability, by staying with a job for a period of time. Generally several years at one job. If you don't have a phone, you need one. A lot of creditors have a policy, no phone, no loan. You also need to establish permanent residency. Owning a home is better than renting, but renting, is o.k. as long as you have a long residency and a good pay history.
