First thing is find out if the management or landlord even run a credit check, some do not. Be up front about your credit issues instead of hoping it will be overlooked. Usually when you're honest and sincere about credit problems a prospective landlord would be more willing to work with you Speak with the owner or manager about it and offer to pay an additional month in advance. It would also help if you could provide references and proof of income right there and then. Those few gestures of professionalism and organization will make a good impression. Most landlords understand people have lives and problems, they are not going to expect everyone applying to rent one of their apartments is squeaky clean. But just make sure they would be willing to work with you before you pay a non-refundable application fee otherwise you would just be throwing your money away.

Good luck.

look for someone renting an apartment in their own home or 2-family.

Most apartments will just let you pay an extra deposit

You'll probably need a co-signer. I have "mediocre-to-bad" credit, whatever that means, and I still got my apt without a co-signer. Not many complexes will want to rent to a couple with bad credit but it's always worth a try.

You could look for in-law units being rented out by families with larger homes... they usually rent based on merit, not credit.

Good luck to you two!

Look for privately owned rentals, not through real estates or agencies. Lots of apartment are handled by such agencies and do credit checks. Individual owners usually don't check credit, they rent to you based on their impression when they meet you.

Bad credit is one of the worst problems to have... however there exists a solution.

I will hereby talk from my personal experience.

I did debt consolidation a couple of years ago, however If I had to do it again I would pay to some minor details,
if someone wants to get out of debt today it is pretty easy with a debt consolidation plan, however it may get a bit tricky at times, I suggest you get as much information as possible online on this first,

a good place to start in my humble opinion is a straight to the point ebook with question and answer I found :

http://umgarticles.atspace.com/debt-consolidation.htm

if it helps kindly remember me in your voting!.. cheers!

You can get a co-signer or save up for a very large deposit...at least 6 months worth of rent. Those are you're only real options if you want to live anywhere decent.
Good Luck, and work on that credit rating, it can screw you up for life.

HAHA, i meant 3 months worth, stupid fast typing.. ;)
