How come people get paid better than other people?

Because some people are smarter than other people.
Some people work harder than other people.
Some people are smarter and work harder than other people.
Some people are better connected than other people.
Some people are luckier than other people.

Reason 3 seems to be the most common.

many reasons. maybe their job requires more experience than others. maybe their jobs are a lot harder. or maybe it's a way to get people to work for them.

It's bazzar sometimes.

In Los Angeles, for example, at a TV station which is union the guy who works the Central Control makes over $25 an hour, however in Buffalo NY, the same guy in a non-union station makes $7.50 an hour.

But, to get the Job in LA you have to be in the Union and have seniority and apply for it from a lower job where you are making $15 or $20 an hour.

In Buffalo you get it by simply applying for it.

It ultimately goes down to the perceived value and the market conditions for that particular position.

For instance, nursing is in short supply in many areas, so a nurse will get more pay where there is a shortage of nurses, or where there are a lot of companies looking for nurses.

However, for a job thaht has a lot of people able to do the work the company does not have to pay as much. For instance, it takes very little specialized qualifications to be a custodian, so there are a lot of people capable of doing that work. So a company does not have to pay a lot to attract applicants.

It also goes down to the amount of training. For instance, an obsetrician/gynecologist doctor has to take almost 12 years of training, plus they have long hours, can get woke up in the middle of the night, and can get sued. So that type of person should make more money.

I agree with whoever answered before. You can't pay a lazy fast food worker as much as a 40+ hour a week engineer!!!
