I don't believe in working hard. I believe in working smart.
Hard work is all well and good, but it doesn't tend to pay well.
The rich people got there by working smart. They either had a great idea that nobody else had claimed, or invested money wisely, started a business and paid others to do the manual labor, or paid their dues by spending several extra years (and about a hundred thousand dollars) on higher education. This is NOT lazy! It's SMART!
Mopping floors and ringing cash registers will not make you rich, no matter how physically demanding it is.
I'm not a big fan of this mentality that poor people work hard, and rich people are lazy. It takes brains, work, and a plan to get rich. That in itself is hard work. In America, anyone can be rich, but you have to put in the work. Hiding behind a hammer and complaining ain't gonna do it.
Also, how do you figure the rich pay less taxes than you? No way this is true. The rich tend to have more tax writeoffs and deductions. Most rich people tend to donate tens, if not hundreds, of thousands of dollars every year to charity, which helps to lower their tax obligation. How much did YOU donate last year? A hundred bucks? Nothing? You better believe rich people give away more money every year than you do, whether it be to the IRS or to charities. |

Because poor people (or the working class) tends to do the manual labor that does not pay as much as the white collar work that wealthier people do. Much of the difference lies in education - get an education, get a better job, make more money. However, the more money you make the higher the amount of money you have to pay in taxes - when you get into the really high tax brackets you pay a higher percentage of income... so I think maybe you're misinformed a bit... |

Your assumption that poor people work harder than rich people is probably not correct.
That said, money comes out of EVERYONE's paycheck. The poor probably don't owe any income tax, but will still pay into social security and medicare. |

Actually, poor people who have jobs end up getting that earned income credit when they file taxes. That usually means they not only get back every penny withheld for taxes, but the get a bunch more back. That extra money comes from middle class taxpayers.
It's the middle class that gets stuck with most of the tax burden. |

You are deluded. First of all, there is a difference between physical work and intellectual work. Alot of rich people have worked very very hard to get where they are. They went to college, where they racked up hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt; they earned advanced degrees and have gone through the trenches to get where they are. They usually put in 14 hour days, 6 days a week to run or manage their companies. They have to go thru board meetings, monitor every facet of their business lives and still make sure all the bills get paid. It is far from gravy! These people have a much higher instance of stress related illnesses.
I have worked jobs where I did repetitive back-breaking work day after day and I have worked where I went home each day mentally drained and stressed out...give me hard labor any day of the week.
And as far as taxes, the richest 1% pay more than half the total tax burden. They may pay a smaller percentage than you, but damn it they've earned it. And this is coming from someone that makes 30,000 a year before taxes.
Remember the american dream? build a better mousetrap and the world will beat a path to your door? Only now they beat a path to your door, demand you share the rights with others that didn't pay all the R&D costs and then they want to tax all your profit away. |

I know a lot of "poor" people and some "rich" ones also , the poor people I see are that way because mostly they choose to be there are a fe who are that way through illness and for those people I truly doo feel sorry for ,you may not get rich from hard work but you will earn money.
There is is a saying I particularly like and it is the Harder I work the luckier I get ,try it you won't be sorry.
I must clarify this by saying I live in Australia ,and this may not be the case for your country but the principles can still exist. |

Actually everyone's check has money taken out of it. However, most rich people are smarter than the poor so they get taxed less whenever they go to figure taxes and end up paying the least. |

As far as the one person answered about how much the rich give to charity,they only give because they have to for tax right offs!! Its not donations from the heart!! Sure they might give thousands to Charity's,but they don't even notice it gone one bit!!But the pore if they give even 1 hundred it is from the heart,and they really feel the loss of that money!! The rich hid money ,say in swiss banks,or the cayman islands! Or they give to the charity"s just so they pay less taxes!! They have the money to pay people to teach them the tricks to hid money or to give it away,in such a fashion that they get more back at the end of the year!! And that just sucks!! There're many rich people who are overpaid due to lack of true free market and competition. Not all rich people get rich by creating something new or more efficient which I agree deserves to be rich. Many rich people are just smart enough to enter a profession which is highly controlled to limit competition.
