I applied for a credit card last week, and it arrived in the mail today, but circumstances changed, and I no longer want it.
It still has the sticker on it that says to call the number in order to activate it, so it's not open or anything.
But, how can I get rid of it? Should I just cut it up, or do I have to call the credit card company and cancel it? |

You definitely have to call the company and cancel your account. If not, that account will remain active and show up on your credit report.
After you cancel with the company, you can destroy your card. By the way, blenders are really fun for this job. |

The ACCOUNT is open, even if the CARD is not activated. You do have to tell the company to close the account. Otherwise, the annual fees, etc., will happen on schedule, even if you cut the card up and do not activate it. |

Technically, even though you haven't activated it yet, it is considered active or open. You need to call the customer service number on the back and cancel the card, then cut it up or shred it. Depending on the credit card company, they will want you to cut up the card and send it back. But make sure that you have cancelled your card |

Last time I received one of these I called the number on the sticker and had to cancel the card that way. Then I just cut it up. I would call just to make sure because you don't want to cut it up and then receive a bill in the mail. So just call then cut it up and you should be all set. Be sure to keep a record of your call just incase they try to bill you in the future. |

You didn't call to activate, that means the card can't be used or the no# over the phone. The account is still open for junk mail and what ever else. You need to close the account. Call the no# on the back and close. |
