I don't have good credit. I can't get a credit card, due to it, so how do I improve my credit? The reason I have bed credit is due to defaulting on a student loan several years ago. So anyway, I have a couple checking accts, both with debit cards, but they don't seem to be helping. What do I do?

Major credit card issuers like Discover, American Express and Chase offer a credit card for bad credit holders. A 'shopping' card offers you an unsecured line of credit from specific sellers. Use these cards to increase your credit rating, since the credit bureaus will be informed about your timely payments.

Take care to ensure your credit is good by making intelligent credit choices. Keep low balances, do not be extravagant and take care to pay off your balances promptly every month.

Buy a cheap car that you can afford from a dealer that accepts bad credit ratings or buy an appliance from a local store that will take a loan on it. You will need some references (arrange those ahead of time with some friends of yours) It may take about a year before a credit card will accept you again. DO NOT MISS A PAYMENT with the next loan you get. Good Luck!

Bank accounts and debit cards are not on your credit report.

You should try to rehab those student loans. There are programs that allow you to make payments for a certain period and then the loans will start reflecting the monthly payments. If those of Federally backed student loans, they will come after you anyway.

The only other thing you can do is get a secured credit card. You deposit $x and that is held as collateral against your line of credit. Use the card and pay it in full every month. This will help you establish a good payment history. You will need at least 24 months of consist, on time payments to see improvement in your score.

What you have to begin with is a bad credit card. You can look through them at http://www.free-credit-reports.com/bad-credit.php. In spite of the fact that they don't have attractive options but they are the first step to good credit.

Bank debit cards won't help. But there are prepaid debit cards you can qualify for that can help you build your credit rating and improve your score.

Credit reports are free; credit scores are not. You can, however, sign up for a free trial credit report and score and cancel it before the trial ends, but that's not something I would recommend.

My ex ruined my credit. A friend of mine who is a financial avisor told me 2 open a savings account at the bank and to try 2 build up a little bit of money n it. After I got about $1500 in my savings she told me to go 2 the bank and take out a loan using my savings account as collateral. Then I put the money I got 4 the loan in the savings also. After I paid the notes every month and the loan was paid off, I took out another loan from the bank. This one for the $5000 I now had in my savings. I put the 5000 n2 the savings account to build it up to over $10,000 I paid on time every month and after 18 months, my credit rating went from under 200 to over 750! And the best part was when I bought my new car, I had my savings account money so I used it every month to pay my car note! I would have used it as a down payment on my house if i was going to buy a new 1. No1 builds credit over night, but if you set a strict plan and stick to it, u can't fail!
