How do I lower my Old Navy, American Express and Chase card interest rates?
I have been late paying once or twice on them all I think.

If you can get a new card that offers a lower rate you may be able to transfer your balance to that new card. Read the fine print! They will charge a certain percentage immediately. Make sure it is worth it.

If you are behind or slow they may well lower your rates, if you explain you are in danger of defaulting. They would rather lower your rates and keep you paying, than get nothing.

Don't take out a home equity or something as right now this is unsecured debt and you want to keep it that way.

Get them paid off and don't ever carry a balance again. Your card should be convenience only not a way to live above your means.

If you have been late paying, you can forget lowering your rates. They will SOMETIMES lower rates for the very best of customers.

Even missing the odd payment does NOT make you one of the best risks, so they will almost certainly not lower your rates.

Judy
If your credit isn't too damaged try to open a new credit account that offers 2.99% on balance transfers.
Yes, they still exist. But if you are late with them, they will jack up yoru rate to even more than what you are paying now.
Go to bankrate.com and click on credit cards, then choose what you want - it will give you a list, some with a link directly to the site.
Give it a try, all they can do is say no.

when you are late on a credit card your interest rate will go up any way unless you are fixed. you really don't have a way to go unless you consolidate all into one loan and one interest rate.

Oh Wise One
Just call and ask. Worst that could happen is they say no.

If you have been late once or twice paying all of them, they are much more likely to increase your interest rate and lower your limit. It is also unlikely that you will be able to get another credit card with better interest rates, with that kind of track record.

You will need at least 24 months of consistent, on time payment to over come those lates.

Just keep calling. If they don't lower them by the 7th time threaten to cancel

I actually work for American Express's credit division and I can tell you that it just takes a phone call. We'll look at your history with us, and give you options that meet both your needs and ours.

You can call CCCS consumer credit card services . they may be able to negotiate a lower interest rate but they will usually close out the accounts in order for you to pay them off.

seth j
Call them and ask. They might lower them for you.

You have to call and ask.. And they most likely will say no. But keep calling back every week or so and eventually theres a chance that they will.
