Victoria, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but that $235. bill is not the only thing keeping your score down. I deal with this on a daily basis and I can tell you for sure, the older the debt, the less impact it has on your credit report unless it is a repossession or bankruptcy. With the latter it will take two years and sometimes three years before your credit score improves. If you have judgments or tax liens on your credit report, this will have an impact on your scores and your credit. In order to improve your score on these is pay them off. Any recent debt that shows late payments, or 30, 60, 90 days old has a tremendous impact on your scores. Mortgage lates, credit card lates, and installment loan lates all have a heavy impact on your credit scores.
Now how do you pay them off is the other question? First, you have to know exactly what is on your credit report. You have to know what all three credit reporting agencies show. You need all three scores. You can get those by contacting the three agencies being Transunion, Experian, Equifax. You can go to the following web sights:
1. Equifax - www.cscredit.com or call 800-392-7816
2. Transunion - www.transunion.com/direct or call 800-888-4213
3. Experian - www.experian.com or call 888-397-3742.
Good luck with your credit report and getting it in order. Today, without a good credit score you will find it will cost you thousands more just to buy anything because you will pay higher interest rates. Maintain living within your means. If you cannot afford it other than over extending yourself, dont buy it. Clear up your credit and I think you should be okay, but first find out exactly what is bringing down your scores. |

Contact the people you owe money and set up a plan. It will be a while for your credit score appears better. You may want to establish credit in another way..a small credit card..with a good payment plan. Its very important to pay more than minimun payments and in a timely manner also. Good Luck!Once you get on the right track you will do well..stay positive and responsible. |
