if you can't get an unsecured card go get a secured one use no more than 30% of credit line and pay on time

Apply for a credit card, you'll prolly have to get a cosigner. Many credit card companies charge interest by the month, so if you pay it off every week, you wont lose any money to interest and you build your credit.

First, go to the website for the Federal Trade Commission and find out how to get a free credit report (no scams at this site) so you can review and check the accuracy of the trade lines. I have worked with many borrowers that have previously filed a bankruptcy and the creditors were still reporting some of the accounts as being "charge off's" and "repo" instead of reporting them as "included in bankruptcy" which would have less of an impact on your credit scores. Send in copies of your bankruptcy paper (include all schedules) so at least they will report correctly.
Then try to find a secured credit card (prepaid cards do not generally report to the credit bureaus) these typically don't require credit, just open a savings and the credit line is right around that same amount. Good luck and I hope this information helps!

I filed back in '97. It hasn't been easy. I tried financing a mobile home but, lost my job. But, I did manage to get a signature loan at my credit union and I am now financing a vehicle. So, it is a slow process but, it can be done. The interest rates are still a little high but, I've been assured that, if I can keep up the vehicle payments, I will qualify to buy a home pretty soon.

look for a card that is for people with bad credit. You can get accepted with these card quite easily although they do come with some fees attached. you could also get secured card. When you get these cards make sure you keep your balance under 30% of available credit. Do not max them out or pay late. get a couple of these cards and start rebuilding your credit history. You could also get a secured loan at your bank and ask them to report the payments the credit agencies. for a list a cards for people with bad credit or for secured cards you can check this website. they have a bunch and also show you the fees so you can compare.
