Banks that issue credit cards earn their profits by charging card holders interest. Banks also charge merchants a fee for processing credit card transactions. Generally 2 - 3% of the transaction, although the fees can vary. |

You are kidding, right? C'mon....the finance charges they make on these cards are astronomical. Wouldn't you like to have a guaranteed 18% return on your money forever (or more). Also, merchants have to pay a fee any time your card is used to buy a product or service. This can range from below 1% to 6% that AMEX used to charge small businesses....quite a service charge, just to let someone use a credit card. And you WONDER why some places give a cash discount? |

Hello,
Banks earn fees in a number of ways. Interest, Late Charges, Return Check fees and more. If you only pay your minimum you will incur more fees so it is always great to make more than your minimum monthly payment.

They dont. Credit cards are nothing more than plastic money. Its yours to spend. You pay absolutely no interest or finance charges when you use them. |

Interest from unpaid balances is probably the major source of income for the banks that issue the cards.. But, LATE FEES are a big factor for them also. Much bigger than they want to admit to the public. They will never openly say that, but, trust me, they count on them. They factor them in when they project future earnings. Banks love fees, they squeeze as many as they can out of us. You will see more and more in the future.. |
