leave them alone concentrate on building your own money up in your bank account and use a debit card that way you will not spend money that is expensive to repay
I work in the finance world and deal everyday with people that are in too much debt! and need help |

I am a 27 year old banker and I never recommend a CC for someone who is 18. Check out Orchard Bank, they are fairly lax on their credit policy. Good luck. |

First of all.. I must state that credit cards at 18 is dangerous. I remember being 18 and getting my first credit card.. it took me 7 years to clear up my credit due to stupid decisions I made. I'm not saying that you will.. but I had to put that out there.
If you are going to college or will be.. you will definately start getting credit card offers in the mail. It's just a given. Most credit card companies like to offer younger people credit cards because not only do most people stay with the first credit card they get... if something were to happen to the person.. their parents would be able to help them pay the bill or there is always students loans to help pay the bill.
As far as going to the bank, sure. Most banks and credit unions offer their credit cards to their customers.. just stop in and pick up and credit card application, fill it out, bring it back to the bank and they should be able to let you know if you're able to get one.
You can always try applying for credit cards online as well. You could try, Capitol One, WaMu, Discover.....
Just be careful when applying make sure you check out the interest rates.. nothing more than 14.99% and make sure the card you are getting doesn't come with an annual fee. Sometimes the credit card companies try to slip that in on the sly... the annual fee can range from $39 all the way up to $99.. and that's a fee you would have to pay every year you had that card.
Sorry that this is so long... hope this helps. |

This one audio clip of his CHANGED MY LIFE when I heard it.
Listen to this man for free, on the radio or online. This is like getting financial wisdom from Bill Gates except this guy has a national radio show. |

To answer your question... Make sure you get a checking account at your bank! These days, they have special offers for students and provide it absolutely for free. Hopefully, you have money to pay off the credit card! Such as from a job or an allowance. Sorry, but credit cards don't work that way. It's not as simple as getting it tomorrow! It takes at least a couple weeks to a month. You would need to provide some proof to show that you really are you! Like a social security card or anything else they would ask for. Yeah, you definitely have to wait! You give them your address and they would ship it to you through mail. |

I am 18 years old as well, since June! I don't recommend on getting a credit card, unless you can handle all that responsibility. Sure, you are able to buy anything and everything you want, but if you overspend... You will definitely hurt your credit score! I know. I have 3 credit cards and my total credit line equals to $2,500. And I am still paying them off! Right now, I have a 0% interest rate for being a new card holder, but later on like in 6 months to a year, the APR will be there. I just applied online for the credit card, it's really that easy! |

You can go to 7-11 or to Wal-Mart and get one. They have them where they are pre-paid and you load them just like a gift card. Some of them cost a few bucks but it is a start and a way to get the beginning of credit. Either that or open a checking account at a bank that uses ATM's and get a check cashing card with a VISA on it. |

I would first try Capital One. They are considered a higher risk credit card company. This means that they are usually more leanient when it comes to providing someone their first credit card. You will notice that *most* people do not have a credit limit higher than $2k (low) with Capital One because they are a high risk company.
Creditors such as American Express; it is not uncommon to see credit limits at $20k, $150k and much higher.
The second place I would check is with Citi.
Finally, if all else fails; most banks offer secured credit cards. This means you give them a check for (example: $500) and they give you a $500 limit. This allows you to establish credit. |

you dont need a credit card. You want a credit card.
I would stay away from them. If you play the credit card game sooner or later you will get behind and start losing. Once you get behind its hard to get out of the game. The high interest rates that they can raise for any reason. Outrageous late and over the limit fees.
Just look through these forums a few days and you will see all the people that are losing at the credit card game.
You don't need a credit card or an I love debt score to make it in todays world.
Pay as you go. Live on less than you make and you will have money. |

you could actually apply on line wich might be better because you will get to compare a few credit cards, but since you are just starting to build credit you might not get a good rate plus will have to pay an annual fee, but once you have had your first card for a about 6-9 months and had made your payments on time you could apply for a better one and drop the first one, check out www.fastcreditcardapprovals.com here you will be able to compare all major credit cards side by side on rates and fees, just go under poor or no credit since you are just starting your credit, good luck |

To avail of the credit card, you should be at least 18 years of age. You should be employed or have some regular source of income. These are two important criteria and if you can give convincing proof to demonstrate your suitability, you will be easily approved. You may have failed to pay back the old credit card debt or some flaw may be present in your credit report. In this situation, getting a card will be tough.

You have to apply and if they approve you then they will mail you the actual card in the mail.
Best way to get your first credit card which will have a high interest rate will be get a student credit card if your in school.... Or you can go to capitalone.com and apply for one and get one that way.
PS: Dont apply over the internet you will never get approved just call capitalone or go into the bank and ask about the student credit cards. |

I have a CapitalOne card that I am very happy with. Check the link and take a look at the card on the far right. The "Capital One Standard Premium". Remember that you will have a very high (19.8%) APR on your first card. I strongly suggest paying your entire bill at the end of each month so that you don't go into any debt. People who don't pay their entire bill off pay a lot of money in interest charges. If you pay it all of you will also start out on the right foot to build your credit history.
You are also allowed to get a free report once a year from the 3 major companies that give you your credit score. Your credit score is basically your grade for how well you take care of your money. the higher your credit score the lower you will have to pay on a car or house loan. |
