You don't want loads of debt. It is BAD news. It means you are paying over the odds for everything you buy. Why pay a total of £15000 for a £12000 car etc etc.

Because you havent had credit you dont have a credit rating. This means to get one you have to get credit.

You are better without any debts and credit cards are an extorinate way to pay for things

You need to start off by getting low value items on credit - maybe you could get a catalogue account with a £100 limit, use it a couple of times and always pay it off in full when you get the bill.
This will give you a credit history, which lenders want when deciding to give you credit cards.
Secondly, make sure that your name is on the electoral roll. They also check this to see if you do really live where you say you live.
Thirdly, get your credit file from Experian and Equifax. These are the 2 main companies that collect the data. Sometimes it is incorrect, leading to lenders turning down applications. You can correct it. Each report costs £2, and details are available on the websites of those companies.

you have never had credit, so you have no credit history for lenders to see whether you are a good payer.

there is your problem. until you have had credit you cant get credit. contract mobile phone might help. loan from bank might help.

catch 22 - each credit application knocks you back as well, so the more you apply for the less likely you are to get.

Be careful... but one of the best ways to increase your credit rating (which is essential for when you buy a home) is to get store cards. For some bizarre reason this increases your CR. One of the dodgy things about credit is that your address could have a bad rating - someone who lived there before could have become bankrupt - this has an effect on you. My dad got into debt years ago and my sister couldn't get a Halifax mortgage - so stupid, but true...

First, be sure that's what you really want. You need to be really careful. But if you really want it, start by getting a small loan, that you don't really need. Make sure you make all the payments on time. Then use the credit from there to get another small loan. It'll take some time, but you'll get there.

if you are still in school you may be eligible for a student credit card. those typically do not require prior credit history. if you are not a student, then i do not know what to tell you.

"Get a Rewards credit card. Reward credit cards reward you when you spend on the credit card. Normally, you can collect rewards through 3 ways.

* It involves earning cash back on the card, it depends on the amount you spend.
* Next one involves giving points to the customers. They can be redeemed for gifts like cosmetics, shoes, water heater, mobiles and other goodies which the credit card company offers.
* The last method of reward is providing airmiles. Airmiles are highly popular reward, as many customers like to redeem them for free flights or flight upgrades. Whatever type of reward credit card you opt for, carefully note the amount or rate at which rewards will accrue and also read carefully other terms and conditions.

If you don't have one already, you should open up a checking and savings account. Though it won't directly build your credit, it will show that you have a way to manage your money.

Then you might want to check to see if where you bank offers low limit or secured credit cards. Bank of America, Wells Fargo, Orchard Bank, are some that offer secured cards if where you do your banking doesn't offer them. I posted the links to apply directly to the cards below. They're the easiest to get becuase you have to deposit upfront the same amount in a savings account. For example, if you depost $500, you would get a $500 credit line. If you pay the card on time and keep the balance low or 0 preferably, you'll get the deposit back usually after a year, with possible interest. My advice would be to make small purchases ($20-75/month) that you can pay off on-time, in full every month. I would only use the card in emergencies. And you may want to increase the credit line every 2 or so months, if possible.

Another thing is to see if a close friend or a family member with good credit can add you to their credit cards as a authorized user, but you don't get a card. They're only adding you for credit reporting purposes only. Make sure that they make sure that the credit card company reports that account on your credit too.

Lastly, check out this website http://prbc.com/default.php?

If you pay rent, cable, utilities, insurance, day care, phone, cell phone, etc. every month, you can report previous payments from up to 3 years back and current payments, have them verified and scored in a report that can be used with your regular credit reports. Look this site over, there's too much for me to explain, but I feel that this is perfect for your situation.

Good Luck!

I had the same problem. You need to start building up your credit rating. Store cards are easy to get hold of and will immediately give your ratings a boost. Just make sure you only buy 1 or 2 things on there, pay it off straight away and then cut up the card. Contract mobile phones are also a way of improving the rating.....

Will the bank you have your current account with not give you a credit card? If all else fails, there are credit cards designed for people will no credit or a bad credit rating. Check out

www.moneysupermarket.com

for details of these.

you need to get a loan for something...like a car or home or school. but since you have no credit you need a co-signer which means if you don't pay the bill the co-signer has too. and after you pay off the loan and never miss a payment and pay it off kinda fast then you will have good credit.
