A good lesson learned cheap: Do NOT co-sign loans or put other people's obligations under your name.
You signed the contract, so "It's my sister's fault." won't cut any ice with the phone company. If the bill wasn't paid then it wasn't paid. Your credit report is a historical record of what happened. The phone company's not going to change history for something like this. |

You need to pay off the debt. Then you need to access your credit file. Then you can write a letter to the credit reference agencies saying the debt is settled. Explain what happened (tell the truth) and they will put your comments next to the bad rating.
You could also negotiate with the mobile phone company to remove the default/level 8 and replace this with a level 4 which means that you had a late payment. I had the a similar situation with Vodafone as they kept over charging me. I takes time but you can sort it out. You just need to write a few letters. |

Was the phone put in your name with your knowledge? If so, that's the risk in allowing someone to use your name (credit) - have her pay the bill. If she put the phone into your name without your knowledge - You need to file a dispute with the phone company and the agency that the debt was turned over to and do it in writing. Have your sister pay the bill. Continue paying all you bills on time. |

the best thing you can do is pay the bill in full, or make your sister pay it. You credit will take about 6 months to reflect the payment.
You can also send a letter of explaination to the credit bureas telling them that it was your sisters bill, but it will still show on your credit til it is paid.

What you do is contact the collection agency that now owns the debt.
When someone doesn`t pay a bill, here`s what happens.
Use your phone bill, say it`s $200.00. The phone company tries to collect for only so long, then they write it off as a bad debt. Then, a collection agency will buy it from them for say $75.00, then they can try to collect the full amount of $200.00. This is how they make money.
Someday, most of the time, it eventually gets paid, maybe you want to finance a car or something, they know you need to clear it off your credit, so there it is.
The fact is, if you contact them, you can talk them down from the $200.00, maybe down to say $125.00. They do it all the time.
BUT, when you do pay them, make certain you have your reciept and keep on them to remove it from your credit.
