It depends on what part of your credit you want to repair. Repairing past debt (write-offs) and current debt, even if its late, are treated differently by lenders and credit reporting agencies.
IF you have the means to settle your debt by paying down the balances, then doing so will help - but it will take time for your FICO score to go back up.
You can offer to make small payments or offer a lump-sum payment for a considerable discount. Either way, make certain you and the lender agree on a specific amount in settlement.
There's a good site with pre-written, standard letters you can use to make settlement offers, stop collection action, how to report erroneous information on your credit report etc.
the site is at http://www.creditscoresystems.com

To hell with worrying with old debt. I had a 480 credit score with 18000 in collections and I hired a company called seasoned tradelines. They charged me 4,000 and they added me as an authorized user on 4 credit cards that had pefect payment history for 10 years and and that affected my credit to where I could get home loans, credit cards, etc. all my negative items are still on there and i still have a current credit score of 701. My debt to income ratio is so high because I invested in real estate on no doc loans and then opened up home equity lines of credit that I don't use often and these huge lines of credit greatly outwiegh my bad debt. Look at this website. www.seasonedtradelines.com
ask for tony johnson and tell them matthew sparks sent you and they will give you a very good deal

First step is to pull your credit report
https://www.annualcreditreport.com/cra/index.jsp.
They are free.

Then look at every items on your credit report and see if there are any errors.

If yes, write them letters and dispute each items.

Do the same process with each reporting agencies.

This is how you can repair your credit.

Address your past problems legally - get them eliminated form your report! Then build your credit by making all your payments on time! Always keep your balances between 10% and 30% - no more or no less! Don't let companies run your credit to often!

Theres no other way but to pay what we owe. The moment you settle your account then you are out of bad image for not paying your agreed obligation.

) Ask for credit reports from the bureaus.

2) Look out for any errors in it.

3) Prepare a Credit Dispute Log recording the details of problems and errors.

4) Contact telephonically the original debtors with whom you are having a dispute. Record the details of the call, especially the name of the person with whom you spoke and a brief overview of the agreements.

5) Send the certified letter to the original debtor.

6) Send letters to collectors, disputing the bill. Also, send the proof of payment to the original lender.

7) Fill out the dispute form available at the credit bureau.
