It's not like they don't have to pay back the money of what they purchase if they use the card right? |

They walk up to the register, hand over the credit card and say charge it. What exactly is your question? Of course they have to pay it off! |

People use credit cards for a variety of reasons. Sometimes people use credit cards to live beyond their means (which is the worst way to use one.). Others (like me) use a credit card because they don't like to carry cash around and if something gets lost or stolen I'd rather it be my credit card than my debit card.
Fraud protection on a credit card is better than a debit card, and if something does happen with my credit card at least they don't have direct access to my money like they would with a debit card.
Responsible use of a credit card can also help raise your FICO score which can in turn lower interest rates on car loans and mortgages (and, under debate, credit cards).
I know other people have mentioned points/rewards programs which is another benefit to using a credit card (though I had it on my PNC debit card also). Though for regular people it does take some time to rack up enough points for good rewards there are some "cheaper" and smaller rewards that are fun also. And who doesn't like free stuff (if you're paying your account in full or almost in full).
So, as long as you can use your credit cards responsibly there is no reason not to use them. |

Right. Credit is like "borrowed" money. Simply put, it's like asking someone else to pay for things for you. After a month, they say, I've paid for $XX.XX for you, now you owe me. You can either pay back the entire total with no penalties now, or you can pay back part of the total and have the remainder of funds collect (usually a lot - like 18%) interest. |

Yes, you're right. The thing is that with a credit card you dont have to pay it off right away, you have a choice. For example: if you purchase something for a 100 dollars, you can pay 10 dollars a month but also pay an interest which is most of the time around 15-20%, it depends. so basically you dont have to pay cash right away if you dont have it. but by using a credit card you can build your credit(points that the bank can judge your ability to pay for something, so the more you use it the more score you get.) if you don't want to pay the interest, you dont have to if you pay right away within a month (25 days). hope i helped. |

I have a rewards credit card. I carry very little cash and charge everything. I then pay the credit card in full every month. In other words, they pay me for using their money. |

They are convenient. I have no problems, because I pay my bills on time every month. |

Buy NOW, Pay LATER...
Buy for $100, Pay for $200 |

Nobody :D

Of course you DO have to pay!
And if you bought a lot of things, it means you have a lot more to pay for... Plus the interest!
Everything you buy costs you. |

Save for what you want, don't use a credit card for it. Only buy what you have cash for, after buying what you NEED with cash.
Only use a credit card if you have the cash to pay it off before incuring interest charges. Don't use a credit card that charges an annual or monthly fee, unless you're really getting your moneys worth (like exceptional savings or flight credit; this is not the norm - don't be fooled by the mileage rip-off, if you don't spend a LOT of money, or fly frequently you won't even have a chance to use those miles).
Credit should be reserved for emergencies for things you NEED. |

I think she meant WHY do people use credit cards. I use mine simply to build up credit. |

yes you have to pay it back. And if you let a balance roll over you get charged a few. You have to at least pay the minimum asked for. But, if all you do is pay the minimum you end up with an even larger bill after a few months. Its more or less a card that helps you when you dont have the money rite then. I use mine so that at the end of the month i just have the credit card bills to pay dont have to use my debit card or take cash out which is good like to spend cash and the credit card has cash back rewards. some people only use them for emergency car broke down or water heater went etc. You do have to pay it back. They are good to establish credit soo you can get a car loan or house loan. |

There is NO positive side to credit card use. You will spend more if you use credit cards. Even by paying the bills on time, you are not beating the system! But most families don't pay on time. The average family today carries $8,000 in credit card debt according to the American Bankers' Association.
Now let's talk about the rebates. If you were using a credit card at 5%, you would have had to have spent $80,000 to get $4,000 rebates on new cars that lost $6,000 of value when you drove them off the lot. That is not a good deal! |

they have been SOLD into fallacies and myths about 'good credit' when all 'good books' state the borrower is SLAVE to lender.
credit card companies will find more loses as the economy adjustment continues.
