Ok, I can see that I am going to have to dispell the myths about credit restoration.
Can you do it yourself? You bet you can. Can you repair your car yourself? You bet you can. Can you build your own house? You bet you can. Can you represent yourself in court? You bet you can. Get the point?
Saying that credit restoration is not legit just because people don't know the laws and haven't taken the time to learn how to do it is just like saying that mechanics aren't legitimate because so many people don't take the time to learn how to repair their cars. Or lawyers, or contractors, plumbers, accountants, electricians, appliance repairmen (or women), etc. That is just an irresponsible statement by people who haven't taken the time to truly educate themselves.
Credit restoration requires much more than just writing letters. One has to have an in depth understanding of the 340 different laws contained in the Fair Credit Reporting Act. One can't just write a letter to the credit bureaus and say "I dispute the validity of the information contained in my report." That will only get you so far. (Kudos to the gentleman above who made it work by accident! You got lucky.) You have to be able to identify many reasons why the information is not valid. You have to be able to cite case law supporting your claim. You have to know the law to be able to use the law.
That is the reason that there are ONLY THREE legitimate credit restoration companies in the United States. JUST THREE. They meet not just the requirements of their respective States for licensing, bonding and insurance, but they have demonstrated the ability OVER TIME, to consistantly produce results for their clients. It is reprehensible to disparage the good work these people do just because you THINK you know a few things about the FCRA and you can fill out a few forms you downloaded from a website.
If anyone wants to know the TRUTH about credit restoration (not that claptrap quoted in the supposed Credit Bible) you may email me with any questions and I will answer you honestly and unbiasedly. My email is nebula7693@yahoo.com |

For the most part this is a scam. Credit bureaus can only report what they can prove, so what these companies do is send out letters challenging ever piece of bad credit someone has. Once the credit bureaus receive these letters they have to remove the bad items until such time as they can verify them as correct, then they reappear on your credit report. So, for while, your credit looks a lot better since this process can easily take 60 to 90 days to do. |

If you haven't gotten your free report, go to www.annualcreditreport.com
Pull all three reports from all three bureaus. If you've already gotten your free report, go somewhere like www.truecredit.com and purchase all 3.
Then you can do online disputes with all 3 credit bureaus. Dispute every single late payment, collection, delinquency, etc.
Wait 30 days for the results. Any that were not removed-- try one more time.
This is all those companies do- a dispute and then hope something gets deleted.
I use truecredit.com becuase it has direct links to the dispute forms for Transunion and Experian (I googled online dispute for Equifax and used the form I found). And because I can update my report daily for $14.99 a month --- with scores-- and watch as the score goes up as things got deleted. |

They can't really fix your credit. They claim all sorts of things, but doesn't mean they can.
Some are plain scams, and some do the exact same stuff you can also do, like write letters to dispute false info, but they charge big fees and you can do it for free. |

You can do the same thing they do without spending money. I believe this is a big money pit. You do send letters. You first request a copy of your credit report from all three credit bureaus. Then you look for mistakes such as, wrong name, any mispellings and if the mark is past 7 years. They have to take them off. Also you can dispute any marks. They have to report back to you in a timely manner, I think about 30 days. If they fail to do so then by law they have to take the mark off. There is alot more to it. There are some great books out there. |

My own personal opinion is that credit repair companies are a giant scam!
The only way to fix your credit is to dispute what seems incorrect on your credit report, pay off what is beneficial to pay off (not a good idea for all charge offs) and make sure you have revolving credit with low balances.
Even credit counseling companies reflect negatively on your credit report. Its almost view the same way as a bankruptcy by some lenders.
Write your own letters, deal with your creditors yourself and dispute anything you don't agree with on your credit report!
I disputed most of the negative info on my credit report and about a third was removed, never to return.
Most collection agencies are "fly by night" and chances are they don't even exist anymore if its been longer than a few years. |

"Credit Repair" companies exist because people simply do not know the law, do not know the procedures, and do not want to take the time to research it and find out. They take the quick and easy way out and go to these companies.
What they don't know is these people charge you a huge fee, do not repair your credit, and do exactly the same thing you can do for yourself.
I've posted a few good links. If you want more info contact me. I've been researching these laws for a couple years now, and have helped a lot of folks out. I am not a lawyer or credit counselor and don't charge for my advice. |

Have you ever wondered what companies
send you when they claim you can erase
bad credit overnight? How about those
ads that say you can get any major
credit
card without a deposit or a credit
check?
Ads abound almost everywhere
these days (online and off) selling
books, systems and secrets to
help you fix your credit. Many
of these programs have claims
which read like the covers of
supermarket tabloids:
"In 3hrs my credit score jumped
from 580 to 676!"...
"Erase bad credit and smash your
debts with just 2 Magic Letters!".
Are these types of claims ALWAYS
too good to be true? The answer is
"Yes and... no".
While many people would love for
you to believe the only thing that
can fix bad credit is time; in
reality... nothing could be further
from the truth. The fact is, time
is only one factor which can fix
a credit report, but it's a far cry
from being the only factor. How
can I back this up? Easy.
Under a consumer protection law
known as the Fair Credit Reporting
Act (a.k.a. the FCRA) the only
negative information which can
remain on your credit report is
not what is accurate... but what
can be proved as accurate under
the FCRA. What's this mean
to you?
It means any negative item on
your credit report can only remain
there if it is accurate and CAN
BE PROVED AS SUCH under the
guidelines of the FCRA. This
undisputable fact presents
consumers with both good
news and bad news.
The good news is that through
the FCRA your credit score can
most likely be improved dramatically
in a very short period of time with
only a modest amount of effort on
your part.
The bad news is that while the
actual "work" will take very little
of your time, it is vital that you
have good information on "how"
to go about it. This is the bad
news; 9 out of 10 courses on
restoring your credit will do nothing
more than lead you into snake
pits because they will provide
you with what the industry refers
to as "Boiler Plate" dispute letters.
These are nothing more than form
letters and... quite frankly (more
bad news) the Credit Bureaus and
Creditors will laugh at you if you
try to use them.
While I agree with the Federal Trade
Commission (FTC) that "Anything a
Credit Repair Clinic can do for you
legally, you can do for yourself at
little or not cost"... the key element
you need for success is the latest
inside techniques and procedures
to get the results you want. This
involves strategies such as "Proof
of Contract", "Constructive Notice",
"Challenge of Procedure" or
"Restrictive Endorsement" and many
others.
All these terms may "sound" impressive
but they are really quite simple. In
the
end, it is nothing more than a method
of communication which exercises your
consumer protection rights, gets the
results you want and raises your credit
score. Even more impressive, once you
learn how simple it can be by doing it
for
yourself, you will find there is a
fortune
to be made doing it for others! Either
way, it all starts by requesting a free
copy of your credit report here:
http://www.AnnualCreditReport.com
In the next segment we'll talk about:
"Is Your Credit Score Costing
You A Fortune?"

They send letters disputing items on your credit report whether accurate or not. They hope that either the credit bureau will accept the letter or that the creditor will not be able to support its claim.
You can buy books that teach you have to do it. Do a search to find them.
The credit bureaus do have the right to reject these disputes out of hand if they think they are fradulent. And they do fight a lot of these claims, so I am not certain that you will be very successful in spite of claims made to the contrary. |

If you want to know how to do it for yourself go to the ftc.gov website. But it is very time consuming to complete. I tried it myself and there was a company that helped me out very much they raised my score 111 points on average.its called platinum financial services 732-920-5575. |

just by a few clicks on the keyboard.
I went online to check out my credit with agencies last year, and there was way you can challenge any thing that they said bad about you,so I challenged anything negative I saw, such as accounts that have been paid for years and closed, and my credit was cleaned up after a few months. |

There are several good books that will lead you step by step including the letters that are sent.
http://www.cafelaw.com/creditbks.html
And, according to the Federal Trade Commission, Self-Help may be the best credit repair advice. See:

Hope this helped and good luck in your quest. |
