Use caller ID to block the calls.
Or-
Ask for an address for the company. Write a letter explaining what you told the representative. Demand that they remove your name from the call list. It's illegal to call people who have requesting being placed on the "Do not call list".
If the calls persists, write to the Attorney General of your state to report the harassment. |

Get their name, # and address before telling them anything........then tell them you will sue them if they do not stop calling.......worked for me...when soe creditors were calling for someone I don't know....the phone # was off by one # it seems. |

I believe it's illegal. Odds are that you've explained that they have the wrong number, but you will need to call a higher-up to have them edit the phone number of the account. You may want to double-check your credit report just in case (http://www.annualcreditreport.com is the government's site) and you should probably call the Better Business Bureau and report their behavior. If it continues, tell them that it's a violation of the Federal Law (specifically the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act). |

This happened to me for about a year. A bill collector called with increasing frequency asking for a person with my same last name but who I had never heard of.
I finally started calling them twice a day every day to let them know that I still had not seen Gail and still had never heard of her.
That was fun for me but still didn't stop the calls. So next I posted the story on a message board where I am very active and gets about 10,000 daily hits. I asked my 10,000 friends to also call the collection agency and tell them that they also did not know Gail but they would all call again every day to let them know if had found her.
I never recieved another call after that. |

Next time they call, ask to speak to the supervisor on duty. Explain to him/her that the person no longer lives there and you wish to stop being harrassed. |

Easy explain to them that so and so doesn't reside at this phone number. If they would like to call the telephone company, you'll be happy to provide them them the telephone company's phone number. |

You tell them that harassment by phone is illegal, and that you are recording all incoming calls....advise that if they do not stop calling you that you are going to file harassment charges.
Worked for me....and in most states...it truly is illegal to be harassed by telephone.

The next time they call ask for the name of the person you are speaking to. Write down that name, the date, and the time. Then ask to speak to the manager of that department or the customer service department. Write down the name of that person. Explain that this person no longer lives at that address; give them your name. Tell them that the calls are becoming a nuiscance. Be polite. Ask for an address for the head office of the credit card company.
As soon as you get off the phone write a letter stating that you have received several calls for a person who does not live at your place of residence. Explain that you have spoken to several people. Give the names of the people you spoke to on that day. Indicate that the calls have become a nuiscance, that you do understand their dilemma, but you do not want them to call you anymore regarding this person.
Keep a copy of this letter and repeat the process via registered mail if it happens again. Enclose another copy of the first letter in the second one.
If all else fails change your phone number. |
