It's called self control.
If you do not possess this, you have no business having a credit card. |

Throw the offers away before you even read them. just as soon as you know that they are tempting offers, throw them away and dont give them a second look. |

Nothing says NO better than a sharp pair of scissors.
Cut them in half if you can't control your spending. |

Have one for (ACTUAL) emergencies.. (NOT a sale, but a needed brake job, or something).. cold turkey is the only way to go.. just stop spending.. Credit cards aren't free money, far from it. |

You can Opt out of the marketing offers and then you will not get prescreened offers in mail. This is the best way to ensure no more offers in the mail and is recommended by FTC as well.
Use this link to opt-out of such offers. https://www.optoutprescreen.com/?rf=t
or call 1-888-5-OPTOUT |

I got one with a $300 limit and pay it off and each offer that comes in the mail goes right in the trash. |

Try to get a house or car with bad credit... You'll say no to credit cards after that. |

Cut em up and go to cash. Saved my life 3 years ago , and now I pay my bills one month ahead, and don't worry about the daily money problems. Heck even had 3 paychecks sitting on my counter before i needed to take them to the bank .FREEDOM! |

i have mine hidden (lost) so i wont use it (can't use it) it's really helpful (it's tearing me up inside) to know that i don't owe any money (to know that i CAN'T OWE ANY MONEY)
my parents are very proud of me for not speding money (they don't have a clue) and are planning on buying me something for my efforts (and now i feel guilty) lol |

I paid all of mine off after getting into major trouble and cut them up. I now only use a visa debit card and have one credit card with a low limit for emergencies. The ability to spend what seems like unlimited amounts of money is definitely addicting, and the best way to combat it is to get rid of the temptation and cut up your cards. It won't take long before you learn to live within your budget and your credit score and check book will thank you! |

I don't. I use my credit card for everything. It has a cash back reward. Then I pay it off every month.
It isn't the credit card. It's being able to live within your means. I know the difference between NEED and WANT.
Oh, my car is paid for too. |

They are that, addicting.
Have a pay off goal, when you look at your balance getting higher and higher after pouring money in them you'll stop-
But really a goal helped me.
and cut them up, or hide them. You'll just have to have some decipline you'll remeber what it's like to have the money FIRST and then buy it. But I had to hide mine until I got them to a small balance before I continued using them again, and now I only use one. But you're right, hard. |

just tear up those junk credit card applications that arrive daily in the mail...I shred mine so no one can apply for one...
I hate credit cards, that is why I saved some money and paid off my credit...feels good to be debt free, well at least credit card debt free... |

Eveyone has to learn their lesson with credit cards. I was once in debt by $6000 after college. It will all come back to haunt you at some point and you will never let it happen again.
Now I only use one card. It's my American Express card and I used my reward points for all kinds of good stuff. Plus, American Express makes you pay it off at the end of each month or they will cancel your account. |

I've got one card. It's my debit card. I use that for anything I want. If there's no money in my account, it doesn't work. I want to pay as I go, and I don't want to owe anybody anything. |

just throw them away.! |

Of corse they are because its another form of instant gratification. Start working on the debt you currently have. Budjet your money to pay large sums to the credit cards you have. Make it your goal to get these things paid off. If your actively working towards that goal, the thought of adding additional debt to your self will seem less appealing. |

You just say no, and be firm about it. I have a debit card that can be used as a credit card, but I rarely do credit. I prefer to only buy what I can pay for at the time. I wouldn't want to charge something, then end up in a pinch or forget to pay the bill (I have enough bills to keep track of). |

You proceed the same way as for any other addictions! You admit you have a problem with it, and decide that this is the day you stop! And you turn your back on it never to use it again! If you are determined enough, it is very easy! Many did this with alcohol, etc... I stopped smoking cold turkey this way and only the first few days were difficult. It is now 7 years and I would never smoke again. .. Just your will!. YOU CAN DO IT !
Good luck. |
