A secured credit card is the best way to go to build up your credit with no risk. You can get one with your bank. As I understand it you have to give them the money and they give you the card with whatever you paid them for, but the money you give them doesn't go on the card, you have that as a limit and you pay on it monthly until you pay it off, I am not sure how it goes after that you'd need to contact your bank and talk to them. But, don't get a regular credit card. The interest will kill you, and you don't want to pay the minimum balance if you do get one, you want to pay it all off when you get your bill. Paying the minimum balance can actually hurt your credit, and the payments just keep getting bigger because the interest builds up on whatever you don't pay off. If you are excellent with your money, have extra and pay everything on time a credit card might not be bad, but if you don't fall in all three of those categories I'd stay away from a regular credit card. Credit cards are the #1 cause of American household debt, so be careful. |

If you have no credit history try applying for a couple of credit cards designed for people just starting to build their credit (Lots of credit card companies have programs like this - Capital One, Orchard, Chase etc).
You can also apply for a revolving card with a department store (Target is a good source for people with no credit).
www.financeglobe.com is a good place to research credit cards.
The bank or credit union you do business with is also a good source. Go in and explain your situation to them and see if they can start you off with a low limit or secured card.
Remember to keep your balances between 33% and 50% of your available credit, pay the bills on time and if you pay them in full each month even better.
By getting even 2 cards and using them responsibly you should see an increase in your credit scores and start building yourself a good credit history. |

You do it by working. You could start a "secured" account or loan by taking say $500 or $1000 and put it in a bank account and take a loan out using your money as collateral. You still have your money in the bank.,(you need to leave it there though) and then you have a amount of loan say $500 and you make payments on the loan. When you pay it off you can get another loan or other types of credit. eventually building up your credit. obviously you must be somewhat good with money to control this and not let yourself get into debt by going crazy spending money. At some point you gotta pay the bills. |

Oh, there are so many ways to build credit. Start with the smaller companies.
A JEWELERY store is the best start. I know you may not need it but they offer credit to a very many majority of people who don't have credit. Don't buy a 1000.00 ring, just a small 100.00 pair of earings and pay it for two months. Then pay off the balance. Do that with a couple of stores. You will see a increase in your score quickly.
