How do you find out what's wrong with your credit? I just applied for a credit card and was denied. I have a
couple of theories as to why and what i owe being the culprits, but how do you find out exactly what is making your credit too bad to recieve a credit card?

Actually, since you were just denied a card, you can obtain a free copy of your report from the agency (or agencies) that they used to deny you. This does NOT count as your "one free a year" report. Look at the letter sent to you for your denial. It should contain the information on how to get a copy of the report. If you were denied at a point of sale (like when they ask at the store if you want instant credit) wait a couple of weeks and you will recieve a letter from the lender telling you were denied and giving you the information you need.

Just request your free credit report @ annualcreditreport.com or call Trans Union toll free @ 877-322-8228 for all 3 credit reports.

FreeCreditReport requires you to sign up for some kind of monitoring service. Go to AnnualCreditReport.com. That is the site set up to get your annual free copies.

If there are any errors, you can dispute them.

How is your payment history? Late payment, even one, is bad and will hurt your credit score.

A large part of your credit score is based on the ratio of debt to available credit limit. If you're over 50%, your score will be trashed.

If you're denied credit, you have the right to ask why. They should be able to give you copies of any documentation or credit reports that were used in making their determination. Just ask. It's a good way to get a free copy of your credit report between the annual free ones.

You can go to freecreditreport.com or wait for the credit card company to send you a letter of denial and it will tell you which credit bureau they used. I have checked all 3 bureas and they all 3 report different..

The company refusing credit will send you a letter stating which of the three credit agency reports they looked at (it could be only 1 or al 3) and an explanation as to the reason(s) for the denial. You then can seek a copy of your credit report to see if there are any errors on the report.

You will need to pull out all 3 of your credit reports and find the deficiencies. Chance of why you were denied was probably due to:
a. late payments
b. high debt
c. too much inquiries
d. charge offs
e. no credit history
f. list goes on

It is very important to check your credit report from experian, equifax, and transunion.

If you live in the US, go to www.freecreditreport.com. You'll be able to see why you can't get a credit card.
