Tell them the person does no longer live there and if they keep harassing you with the phone calls you will call a lawyer and sue for harassment which legally you can do. |

I've had that problem, I just got a new phone and got an old number of someone who ruined their credit. Ontop of creditors calling, banks, and people calling. I got tired of explaining so I changed my number. |

Tell them you are starting to record their conversation. also give them a warning. One more call and you will file a suit |

If you have caller id, just don"t answer the phone if you don"t know who the caller is. Why change your number? That cost money, then you have to give everyone your new number. |

Send them a letter informing them the person they are trying to contact does not live there and that if they persist in calling you will report them to the FTC for a violation of the Fair Credit Collection Act. |

change your number. the new number will only be in your name and not the previous owners (the person that owes the dept). I know its a ***** to do. But from my experience its the only way. |

I just went through this. I wrote them a letter, (yeah, snail mail), and told them I was contacting a lawyer
if the made any more calls to my phone number. Everything else I tried failed, but this worked. |

The only thing that has ever worked to get those credit companies to stop calling is either let an answering machine or voice mail answer every call for about 6 monthes. However the method proving far more effective in far less time enabled me to have a little fun with them and even better it rendered them completely frustrated instead of me!!! When they would call asking to speak with the debtor who you have repeatedly informed them doesn't live there, simply say "Sure, hold on". Then place the phone beside you or in another room (depending if you want them to hear you completely ignoring them or not) but DO NOT return to the phone again until they have hung up. You will have to repeat this process about 3-4 times but they soon get hint and opt to discontinue attempting contact at your number!
Good Luck! |
