How do you keep your lights from being shut off when you can't afford to pay your bill?
If you send in or do an online payment of any amount will that help? I mean it shows an attempt to pay right?

If you can afford the internet you should have no problem paying a bill. If your that far in debt cut back on some things like the interent and other things we don't need for everyday life......K

some utilities can tell you where you can get assistance. if they can't help you check into equal pay or making payments.

Call to make payment arrangements. Also, call the local human services office and ask them for a community contact to help with your bill. Also check with Salvation Army. They often have programs that can help.

i think you answered your own question !!!!

ask for an extension. or the city will have a program, you just have to wait in a godforsaken like with the scum of the earth. but hey free bills.

or get a payday advance or pawn some stuff. hit up ur folks.

Arranging payment plan and contacting the local government are the first two steps. Do it ASAP. There is nothing wrong in that.
But then, you need to look at it in the long run. First of all, sit down and check how much money you are making a month. Then calculate the "essentials" being rent, food, utility bills, car payment. If your income does not cover those you need to get a better/second job.
Given that your rent/morgage is not through the roof ofcourse.
Once those expenses are covered, the rest of you check is money you can spend. In that money you factor you credit card bills (money you already spent). Call you credit card companies and check what your APR is, how much you own on earch card and what is the limit. If you can, transfer all high interest balances on the card with lowest interest rate.
Depending on how much you own, you might want to consider calling a credit agency.
They'll consolidate your lawns and negotiate a lower rate/payment.
It is very important not to spend the money you will save from the consolidation, but use them to make extra payments to reduce your debt.
Hope that helps.

Contact the company and speak to someone. Try to set up a payment plan. Or if you have kids or an elderly person or someone who is chronically ill they usually can't shut you off. But speak to them, better than letting it go.

Call the company and ask for a payment plan and pay something right off the bat.....anything to show good intention and stick to it. They won't be sympathetic a second time. Then for a while, you need to drop anything you dont actually need. Forgoe all extras that are not necessary until youre caught up. OR screw the bill and get the power cut on in someone else name if you can. Not responsible, but people do it.

Get a job. If you already have a job, get a second job. You can start big if time is not essential, but if you are short on time, let me suggest the local fast food joints and grocery stores. Here comes the hard part. Instead of spending the money you get from the second job on 'other things' Deposit the check, get a money order, and pay the electric bill. Trust me, it works EVERY TIME it is tried. I have made use of this method at least 5 times in my life. Sometimes, I make use of the work ethic even when I am not strapped for cash. It's amazing.
