Applied for two low end cards and was denied. Will someone give me a chance? Don't really want to get a "secured" card. |

You should be a poster child for this topic....I love to read all the answers about the evil of getting credit when you are young.
By the time I was your age, I have a great job. I bought my car in cash, along with everything else. I saved a lot of money, and when I was ready to buy my home, I planned to put down $20k (this was back in 1978 folks!).
I got turned down! Reason? No credit history. Fortunately for me, I had a loan officer who wasn't a complete idiot and could read past the credit reports.
Start by taking kerdog's advice. Get a department store credit card, and a gas card. Use them regularly and pay them off each month.
Go to your bank (credit union is better) and get a small secured loan. Make the payments, and if you can pay it off AFTER 6 months to establish a credit line. If you can afford it and you have the need, do this again! Secured loans look great on your credit.
It's gonna take several months, but you will easily get a good credit rating if you follow these simple steps. |

Try applying with some 'department' stores, or gas companies, instead of bank cards. |

I have a friend who is 50 and never had any credit, she paid cash. My daughter who worked for a large dealership helped her buy a car on credit. The only thing she had that was positive was a bank account that she had with the same bank for 15 years. They were able to get that bank to float a $12,000 loan to get her started. |

When you are denied for a credit card, you have the right to a free copy of your credit report. You should get a copy and verify that everything is accurate. You may think you have no credit but it is possible there are mistakes on it or things you haven't thought about. If you have a cell phone, that is reported. If you have made a late payment on that phone, that's reflected in your credit. Same with cable, electricity and other bills. I got my first card at 15 years old, no adult required. It was with Providian, I'm not sure if they still exist. If you have a bank account, such as a checking, you can get a Secured credit card which means that the money in your account is what your credit limit is. It is a way that some people start out. (I know you said you don't want to do it but just in case). Just make sure that as you start receiving credit, you pay your bills on time and soon they will be begging to give you tons of cards. |

Secured credit cards are a great way to rebuild your credit. Most secured credit card companies require a deposit equal to the credit line your are seeking. Make sure they report your payment monthly to the major credit bureaus. Making your payments on time monthly will increase your credit rating. You will also get you deposit returned to you after one year, turning your secured credit card into a unsecured credit card. |

no offense but if your 28 with no credit history thats really bad.
most people get credit cards at the age of 20. what it says to the lender or employer is youre afraid of responsibility. someone will give you a credit card.
try orchardbank.com or householdbank.com. they are very generous and sensitive to forks without A1 credit. |
