How drastically does an auto loan affect your credit?
I just got one for 54 months the payments are very reasonable and its set up as an allotment so it automatically comes out my paycheck and I don't have to worry to much about anything. I'm in the military so my job is guaranteed I just want to know how this loan will affect my credit does it have the possibilty to raise it a lot or what?

Auto and home loans have the biggest impact on credit scores over time, as long as the loan is pad as agreed and from what you said it looks like it will be your credit score will go up a lot after the first 12 payments are made.

It will only affect your credit score in a positive way when you are closer to having it completely paid off.

Actually it will make it harder to get any Credit Cards because you already have a commitment towards that debt and you now have less discretionary income left to pay back possible lines of credit from your credit cards.

Kinda like maxing out a Credit Card and starting to pay it down...
It will give you a better score when you are closer to getting the balance down to Zero again.

But once you have it paid off.. it will be a great addition to your credit report and will stay on indefinitely... that is the neat thing about credit reports. Any positive entries stay on forever. So a car loan that you take out and completely pay off will always be on your report as a reminder that you are handling your financial responsibilities the way they should be handled.

It will not affect your credit. It might improve your credit score. It ill show other creditors that your a good risk. Please make sure that you use credit for good and don't go into debt.

First I would like to say thanks for your service and your work defending our nation.

The fortunate answer is taht over time it can help to raise it significantly! The question is why is it low presently.
Are you a recent high school graduate and a recent enlistee in the military? I am assuming that this is new credit and you are a recent enlistee. Over time your credit will improve and you will be able to get more favorable rates, require less downpayment, etc.

The downside is that your car may sit if you are deployed overseas. The benefit is if you survive overseas deployments intact you will have a year of interest free income. If you loan the vehicle to a friend be really careful. A few soldiers I know have found their car sold by a wife (they needed the money or wanted 1 less vehicle to deal with) or wrecked by a friend.
