Welsh Jedi 2009 | How is everyone coping with the credit crunch? |
I am finding that as a college student that prices of food is really expensive and travelling costs are rising so i do tend to walk more these days as i need the money. I find that shopping for myself is expensive i have a budget of £25 and that is not enough for me. I try to shop at the cheapest places but still it seems not to work. So i am going to take 2 weeks pay and do a massive 4 week shop. |

Yep times are hard but hey im 'resourceful' (not tight as my friends call me hehe)...some top tips for a cheap shop coming right up:
It works out cheaper to buy food to cook from scratch key items should include: minced beef, turkey breast, liver, sausages, potatoes (lots of), fresh veg. With these basic ingedients you can have turkey curry, turkey casserole, spagetti bolognese, savoury mince n mash, chilli, sheperds pie, liver n sausage casserole, toad in the hole and lots lots more. If your on your own make a batch a freeze the rest, splitting it up into one portion size per food bag. Its all healthy stuff, the recipes can be looked up on the net. For toiletties n stuff markets and discount stores are great for these things, you can save a fortune on supermarket prices.
Good luck and be healthy :-)) |

To be honest!I am like millions of people around the world keeping my eyes shut, keeping my fingers crossed and hoping the after effects do not directly affect me!
I am placing a lot of the blame on the shoulders for my predicament on Gordon Clueless Brown for most of my economic woes! Why?He,as a so called world economic whizz kid should have seen this financial turbulence coming 18 months ago!
All this to ing and fro ing around the world is just to kid the British voter that he is solving some of our economic problems for which he is partly to blame! |

In my student house we are feeling the credit crunch, there is a lot of pasta and potato eating, sitting in the dark unless someone is working and blankets, sleeping bags and hoodies around the place!
and we miss cheese. Cheese is soooo expensive for the good stuff these days. |

Hasnt really affected me at all to be honest, im a student, my part time job is so low paid i dont have to pay tax, dont drive, never had much money to begin with so got nothing to lose :D to be honest i think every student in teh past has struggled with food and bills, not really a credit crunch thing, so no worries |

Not too bad, but then I don't use credit. I don't have credit cards or loans and I don't buy stuff on credit. My only irritation at the moment is the cost of electricity. You can manage on £25.00 (Per week?) , if you are careful and buy the right sort of stuff. Keep away from ready meals etc. They are expensive in the long run, as they are not nutritious or big enough as a decent meal and you end up being hungry soon afterwards. Don't throw food away. Try to use the leftovers for another meal. Look for alternatives which you can divide up and make some meals to pop in the freezer. Like stews, casseroles, bolognaise and home made pies. Set aside a day a week to do some baking and stock up your freezer with lots of homemade yummies. Flour margarine sugar and eggs need not be expensive and you can put a lot into a pie. I make a menu each week and stick rigidly to it which can be a big help. I do baking once a week, even though I work 30 hours a week and have a family to look after. My Mum used to say to me, "The more you do, the more you CAN do." It really is true. Good luck. |
