How likely is it the person will be caught using my credit card?
It's been almost 2 months since my card got stolen at a party. I actually don't remember if it was debit or credit. The person made a purchase of about 100 dollars at Target. I forgive the person, even though I don't know who is was, and it wasn't used anywhere else. I never filed a police report. Do the credit companies definitely look into this or is it unlikely? Or do they just eat the loss of smaller amounts.
Additional Details
No one really answered the question at hand. Do credit card companies eat the loss? Too bad if the story sounds funny to you, that's none of your business. I want to know if credit card companies will go after the person. So far only one person answered this question.

Ive lost a few cards and have had them used by the thief. Unless its a large amount theres on way they will look into it. It would cost them 10 times that at least and even then theres next to no chance theyd find out who it was.

The police will care less. They will take a report and thats it.

Report it or they won't get caught.

um, you should report and cancel your credit card. if you dont report this you are going to pay all the bills.

Unless you told them, they won't know. You need to call them and cancel the card if you haven't already.

did you contact your credit card company? I would get the card replaced with a new number. Actually I did do that and it was also Target involved. Maybe you can get the credit card company, if you know which one it was, to do a search of your history to know if it was credit or debit. We really only need one credit card, with the smallest % interest possible, use it only for emergencies, and to book reservations. They are a money pit.

you're lucky I'm nice

why are you a doormat? i suppose you paid that bill off, too? don't be stupid. file a report, and i hope you frickin canceled your card. your credit can be royally screwed.

Do you come from a rich family or something? You seem like you don't really care that this stranger is out buying **** with your card. They will definitely get caught if you report the damn thing.

If you report the card stolen, (and pending they still have the tapes) they can get Target to pull the security camera tapes from that day of the person making the purchase. I had a summer job at Target when I was 18 - they have cameras every where and a really good assets protection staff. Call and report and don't wait.

It really depends if you have report your card stolen. If the person still has the card and you have not reported it to either the company or the police your will be liable for what ever amount they charge on it, even beyond its limit. The credit card company does not investigate or attempt to catch the person who stole your card, and only after you report it stolen will not allow further charges from being placed on the card. If you had reported this when it happened, you would not have been held liable for the 100 that was charged on the card.

Sounds like you know who stole your card. Usually, when someone rips us off, we don't forgive them that easily, we prosecute them! What is also funny is that you don't even know if it was a debit or credit card! Did you cancel the card so it could not be used again? This story sounds fishy to me.
