How long can bad debt chase you for owed cash?
have a ot of bad debt from two years to ten years if one catche s up with will the rest

Most debts are legally uneforceable if they have remained unacknowledged for 6 years or more. This means that if you havent made a payment for 6 years or otherwise communicated with the creditor or their agent for the same period then the debt cannot be enforced. BUT please note

1. Debts relating to land such as mortgage shortfalls have a 12 year limitations period and some debts eg fines, council tax arrears never become time barred

2. The debt is legally still due but simply cannot be enforced. This means that they can chase you for the money but to enforce it they have to sue you. If they sue you then you have a defence to the claim. You cannot ignore the summons (claim) you have to lodge the defence. If you do nothing this has the effect of reactivating the debt and then you have real problems in setting the judgment aside.

This answer relates to the law in UK, the other people answering seem to be talking about USA, where the Laws are quite different.

So in your case some of the debts will cewrtainly be enforceable all things being equal and some may not. If you have doubts get advice from a CAB

Charlotte is correct, you need to address this situation one way or another. If you don't you will always have bad credit, if you do, you will have bad credit for awhile, but eventually your credit will get better with time, and other means. There is no miracle, but you will have to work at it. But it can be done.

Good luck !!!!!

If you have a LOT of debt then you should consider bankruptcy, it's always going to follow you round and you're going to be constantly looking over your shoulder.

Bad credit will follow you / stay on your credit report for 7-7.5 years, unless its a tax lien or bankruptcy which will remain for 10 years.
Your bad credit from 10 years ago should not be on your credit report.
I recommend working on improving your credit and visiting myfico.com for lots of useful information.
Good Luck!

Texas is correct. You need to check the links below which explain credit bureau reporting and the statute of limitations.

if its alot they will keep at you until they get something, unless you settle a payment plan with them otherwise it might be worth talking to someone to get legal help in this matter before you land yourself in ever more mess...

good luck

As the other answers say 7 years as long as you have had absolutely no contact with them.

Janice D
Depends on where you live, and the date of the last activity on the account. Mostly its 7 years. Even if you pay them off it will still remain on your credit report, it will say "settled" but it doesn't disappear. I know what you're going through, I've had good payment history for the last several years but old bad habits are still haunting me!!

Sorry to say but for as long as they can and that can be years they just dont seem care if you owe they keep searchin and the more ya move the more they hunt. There like little mice all over the place. But i would suggest you try to work out a deal and to pay something anyway.
