it takes 7 years from the last time you either pay something or you promise to pay something. call them & tell them you can pay 50% of the balance right . (only if you have it for real) and they will work out a deal , some will let you settle for 50% and you can pay it in 3 installments (1 payment a month)..And your credit report will show that the account was settled with a zero balance meaning its the same as paying the full amount. most mortgage companies will tell you to try to settle all of your debts so it dont come back to haunt you. Its so many way they can stick it you , that you will wish you paid it.Llike they can continue to add interest to the account until you pay it and in a few years the balance has gone from $500 to $2500.00 then they hit you with a $2500.00 law suit so you try to settle out of court for $1500 and after all of that you still paid $1000 in interest. so be careful with who you owe. |

if you have paid something off, it will come off. if after a month it hasn't came off, send photo copies of your payment and a short letter to the credit bureaus and ask to have it removed from the proof of payment you enclosed.
if you don't pay it off, it can sit there for at least 7 years, if not even longer.
items that never come off would be your address history, ss# (s), name and/or alias.
I am 37....every address I've had since I was 18 is on my credit report. But the car loan I had at 18 is no where to be found on my credit report. If that helps. |

seven years but you can have the record esponged if you can get the person you caused the damage to say you have paid in full or he was satisfied |

You should pay more attention to building new, good credit instead of worrying about the bad stuff. It will take 7 years OR MORE to get the bad stuff off. Foreclosures can stay on for 10. Start building good credit around the bad stuff. Creditors will eventually look at the bad marks as 'unfortunate incidences" versus bad credit habits. |

7 years for most items, Judgements and bankruptcy can stay for 10 and student loans will stay until paid off. |

At least seven years. I've heard that derogatory items (not bankruptcy) can stay as long as twelve years. Bankruptcy as a rule stays seven years, but there is talk of it lasting ten years. |
