Really, as many as you can handle yet still be responsible.
Different rewards come with different cards, and some people carry 4-5 cards. |

you don't "need" any. use cash. or do without. avoid debt.
IF you get one, pay the balance off monthly. Do not pay interest. |

Depends on your situation, of course, but I do not see the reason for needing more than one, especially if you are just starting out and can get a high enough limit. It helps to establish credit and make online purchases. Do me a favor though and pay it off each month. And find one that has no annual fee. The reason our economy is in such bad shape now is because of the credit issues everyone has, including the government.
Hope this helps. good luck |

2. I have a mastercard and a visa. I mainly only use one, but I keep the other for emergencies. And never have credit cards if you can't pay them off. |

It is convenient to have at least one but I highly recommend you never carry a balance. Pay it off in full every month. If you can not, do not get one. Building credit is important but not if it costs you an arm and a leg. Build your credit responsibly and once you are at the level of success you want to be, there is only one card you want........AMEX Black |

i have 3 cards, and i manage them well..i have never been late, and i always pay more than the minimum..some ppl say just pay cash, well, if you dont have the cash at that moment, then what? use credit cards wisely...pay what you know you can afford to pay back and then some. |

I recommend you have two different credit cards with a debt/credit ratio below 50%. That is, use less than 50% of your total credit in a billing cycle. That guarantees good credit build up while not negatively affecting your score. |

Stay away from credit cards...you pay more than its worth in the end "just to have one". |

You don't NEED any credit cards at all. You can use cash for all your purchases. You can also use your own money for emergencies as well. I look at it like this: if I am in an emergency, do I really want to be using someone else's money to pay for things, especially with those high interest rates? In a lot of emergencies income can become scarce (loss of job, illness, etc). So I would not want to be borrowing money in a time like that. I would rather have an emergency fund (3-6 months of expenses) saved where I can use that money.
So again, you don't need any credit cards. If you are going to use credit (debt) then I wouldn't suggest getting more than one. And always pay off the balance in full each month so you aren't hit with interest on the balance. |
