How much can I go over my credit card limit?
My credit card has a limit of $1,000. How much can I go over the limit?

If you go over, even by $1, you'll likely get charged an over-the-limit fee. How much total they'll let you go over depends on the card, but usually not a whole lot.

While some creditors allow people to go over their limit, there is usually a huge down side to doing that.

You will be socked with over limit fees
Your interest will probably be ratejacked to an extremely high amount
They will report the over limit to your credit report and drive your score down for 7 years.

It really depends on your card company. Best thing to do is to call them and see what their policy is. If you are concerned about your credit try not to use more than half of your available credil line. It hurts your credit when you use all your limits.

it depend on credit card company.
Don't max out your credit limits. Your ratio of debt to outstanding credit is a factor in determining your credit score.

hey, they call it a "limit" for a reason. you'll pay extra fees for going over.

Depending on the credit card very rare you can go over the limit to a great degree without them closing the account.

Limit. v meaning no more than.

If you go over your limit you can loose upto 50 points on your credit score. You will get feed big time and it will be almost impossible to pay back.

DaveInSeoul
It depends on the CC company. But I'm guessing at a $1,000 limit, they probablly won't let you go over at all.

Brian F
Once you hit your limit you will not be able to charge any more to the card, however fees and interest will continue to build on the account to no limit. So even if you only pay the minimum payment you could quickly find your balance way over your credit limit.

Unless it is an emergency it is best to not go over 50-60% of your credit limit on your card.
