I always avoided credit card debt. I own a home and I like to save money. i'm 27 and single and all my girlfriends go nuts with credit cards. I fell into the trap a little bit and now I have $4,000 debt. Is this good for my credit or should i just do what I can to just pay it off right away? |

Having credit card debt is not good for your credit. Having and using credit wisely is good for your credit. I use credit cards, but only sparingly. I also keep the balance to under 10% of the available credit limit, and pay off the balance in full each month. Using too much of your credit card limit (i.e. over 30-50%) is not good for your FICO credit score.
Pay the debt down as quickly as you can so as not to incur interest charges. |

It depends upon your income. $4,000 isn't too bad if you make $75,000/year but it would be horrible if you make $40,000. I would say that if you cannot pay the entire balance off each month, then it would be too much.
In your situation, make sure that you at least keep current on this card. If you can put extra down on it, do so. Since you own a home, maybe you could borrow from your equity to get rid of this $4000 and then only keep the credit card for emergencies.
It's bad for your credit when you start to fall behind on payments. Look at your debt to income ratio as well and keep the total number of accounts you have down to a minimum. |

As a rule of thumb, you should never spend more than 30% of your limit at a given time. If you can't pay your credit card in full every month, then don't charge. |

Any credit debt you can pay off is bad. Pay more than the minimum, monthly, payments. The debt will soon be paid if you triple the minimum payment. |

It depends how much your credit limit is. The bigger the space between your total credit limit and the balance you carry, the better. Paying it off as soon as you can is a smart thing to do. |
