You do not require any credit for this. For the instrument you buy you have to shell out cash to the shop keeper.
Prepaid plans are activated only after you pay and get it for the amount paid. You can not exceed it.
For postpaid connections, you have to provide you Photo ID and proof of residence and the Companies will issue and send bills on monthly basis for your making payment. They give postpaid connections only after ensuring your creditability and they take the risk of your utilisation of the connection for 2 months and if you fail payment on any time your line is CUT |

I haven't had a credit card or any recent history for over 3 years (we sold our house, paid off our bills, and cut up the cards!) I was shocked when Verizon gave me a phone with no deposit. You never know-just go and apply! I actually applied to prove to my friend that I wouldn't be able to get a phone! Imagine how surprised I was! |

This is a good way to establish credit if you are just starting out but be careful... most plans are for one or two years. Make sure you can afford to keep the plan for those durations. In addition to helping you build credit, they can also help to destroy it. |
