There have only been two times I have every carried a balance on my credit cards. Once by mistake and the other my honeymoon.
I paid for my honeymoon after 3 months.
He'll get over it. Just try to keep those balances to 0.
A lot of people do not carry balances, only poor people that buy more than what they need. Use your cards for groceries and gas and get the yummy cash rewards.
Remember, carrying a balance reduces your credit rating. |

Right now I have $320 on one of my credit cards. I almost never have a balance. About the only time I use it is when I'm spending a few hundred dollars at once and I want to get the points and don't want to drain my checking account. Maybe a little lame? Anyways, the bill gets paid in full when I do this.
$4200 isn't bad compared to many people out there (sadly). I know I'd feel uncomfortable with it, but as long as you guys enjoyed yourselves and it gets paid off quickly (without paying too much extra in interest), what's the harm? If anything, try to transfer it to another card interest free. I called to close an account once and they offered me interest free transfers so I took them up on it, and transferred what I had (about $1000) and got to pay it off without interest. Pretty nice deal in that case. |

I owe NOTHING. I NEVER carry a balance on a credit card. That is exrememly foolish and the reason this country is in such a mess because people live beyond their means.
I only buy things when I have the money. I have never paid one cent of interest to a credit company, never had a car payment. Thank goodness. |

Instead of being angry, he should figure out a way to make more money. This doesn't bode well for your future together. Is he gonna get angry every time you spend money? Would a lousy debt of $4,200 matter to a multi-millionaire? You don't take a honeymoon every day. Next time, marry someone who can afford you! I learned the hard way, got divorced, and am now with someone who is thrilled when our credit card debt exceeds $100,000 (which it has, often -- while maintaining a credit score of 800) because we are strategic in its use. We didn't get to where we are (self-made successful entrepreneurs who will never have to get jobs for the rest of our lives) by skimping on debt. There isn't a better source of easy unsecured investment capital, and we don't go without fun either. We have the money to pay it all off at any given moment, but that would be a misuse of cash resources that are earning higher interest than we would save by paying off the cards before the awesome rates expire. Instead of being angry at credit cards, learn the value of them based on what the borrowing is costing you and use it to your advantage. If the two of you are unable or unwilling to do that, better put the cards away before you get into trouble. Besides, you two honeymooned together, so he had a hand in spending that money too. It sounds like you have a lifetime of fights about money ahead for you. Time for a reality check! |
