Good grief, we have fifty states plus DC. Where do you want? San Francisco has the highest average rents for apartments (we don't have flats here). Manhattan has the most expensive--I believe Trump Tower goes as high as $250,000/month (out of my range, anyhow), but a few miles north in Harlem you can find apartments (complete with hot and cold running cockroaches LOL) for $200. The outer boroughs tend to be cheaper, but again, you don't specify: studio, one bedroom, two bedroom, more? Don't bother looking in New Orleans for a couple years. Boston tends to be expensive, Philadelphia cheaper. DC is very hard to find anything unless you are prepared to commute from the suburbs (Maryland higher than Virginia). Phoenix is grossly hot most of the year, so you'll pay for a lot of airconditioning (or DIE), and I don't like the area. Seattle is nice but pricey. And on and on.

Go to Craigslist.com and find the cities you are interested in. look for yourself at the size and cost of different apartments and compare.
remember, though, for the most part, wages increase in towns with higher cost of living. |
