How much of a problem do you create for yourself by paying a credit card bill one day late. (1st late payment)

What I would recommend in this instance is contacting the customer service department of your company and request a grace in this instance. Explain your extenuating circumstances (if any-other than you forgot ) and many times they will grant you a reinstate of the late fee and also not hold it against you on your credit. The worst they can say is no, right? Beleive me, its worth your time. I have done it before (I was on vacation with no access to pay the bill) and they granted me the grace. I have never had another late payment other than that.

MyDestinyAwaits
Just about ALL credit card companies have a grace period. I would contact the company and ask about the grace period. If you were one day late than you should fall with in the grace period so you should have to much of a problem at all.

One day is not a problem, in terms of your creditworthiness. They actually like that because they can charge interest and late fees. :-) But you won't be reported "30 days late". That means 30 days past the due date, not 30 days past the statement date.

luciousgreeneyedlady
one day late is nothing to worry about. it is when you are 30 or more days late that you will probably be reported to the credit bureaus.

You will be charged interest on your outstanding balance and probably a late fee on top of that. As previously recommended, do call your credit card company to see if they will remove the late fee. If you have had this credit card for some time now and keep your payments up to date, they may be willing to help you out. They can look at your history with them to see if it is good or not which will influence their willingness to help you. If that doesn't work, figure on paying the late fee and any interest you have accumulated.

I do most of my payments online and one time I was a day late due to the cut off time of making an online payment. Well....Chase tried to charge me a $35 late fee. I called customer service and wrote a letter to dispute the charges and they removed it. But it did end up being a problem. All because I made my payment online after 3:30pm the day before my payment due date....or whatever the cut off time was.

One day is 30 days to a credit card company - it's late no matter how many days. So, if they choose to, they can have it put on your credit report.

IamConfused
You will have to pay Late fees.

I dont think one day late on credit card bill will cause you any problem. I have a few late payments (few days), but my credit report shows 0 late payment.

To play safe, you can call customer service and ask them not to report you. If they want to continue their business with you, it is most likely they wont report you.

gingy gal
it's only late if it's one day past 30 days. If this is your first time, you should call up and explain why you were late. Most credit card companies will "pardon" you the first time you re late. But don't wait, call right away and speak with someone.

Check your credit card agreement. Most likely they can raise your interest rate and charge you a late fee, whether it's one day or thirty.
