a credit card is a legal contract where you promise to pay you bill at a later date, so the credit card companies require you to be at least 18, they can't technically enforce a contract with someone under 18 and they don't want to loose their money. |

A minor cannot enter into a legal contract, which is what it takes to get a credit card, signing a contract. So, that makes it age 18 or be an emancipated minor for you to do it by yourself. Of course, you could have a co-signer as a minor, but that also means it isn't your credit card either as you are just another person who is allowed to use someone else's card. The other person must be legally an adult to co-sign. |

18,.. old enough to sign a legal binding agreement
unless you have a co-signer then you could get one at a younger age |

Actually I doubt there is a legal limit.
I know of a man who's dog got one and I know of a computer complex where the computer had a nicknamed and it received a pre-approved one.
The thing is that most states cannot enforce a contract unless both parties are of majority age. The card company knows that and does it's best to avoid getting involved with someone under 18. They just won't knowingly do it.
If you are getting a card for a dog or a computer with the intent of using it and not paying the bill that is know as fraud and is punishable as a crime. |

Depends on your location, but you can get a pre-paid credit card at any age.
Check the age of majority of your location and if you are underage, you can always co-sign with your parents to get a regular credit card. |

18, or any age with a co-signer |

Any age, you just need to be able to pay it by you or your legal guardian. |

If your parent's assign you a card from one that they have currently, you can get a credit card as young as 14 years old. I am 44 years old now, but my parents got me my first card when I was 14 through one of the banks that they had an account with. As long as the person who holds the card is of legal age, anyone can get you a card and make you an authorized user; but you yourself at a younger age cannot do this because you are not of legal binding age to enter into the credit card agreement that comes with all credit cards. If you are under the age of 18 just ask your parents if they will do it for you. If you are responsible enough, they will do it. |

On your own, you can legally apply for a Credit Card at Eighteen Years of age. However, many Credit Card companies will not give out a card to somebody who has no credit history, and will usually require a cosigner to insure that debts are paid.
You can get a credit card at a younger age, if you have a parent / guardian who will cosign for you, and sign a contract permitting you to use the credit card while claiming responsibility for your purchases. |

Any age as long as a parent/guardian co-signs. |

i was 16 when i got my first one. It was under my parent's account and for buying gas for my car most of the time. Other things i could buy with my parents permission.
Got my own card when i was 18. Most credit card companies target college kids. |

18, unless credit card issuer is willing to work out something so a person under 18 can have a credit card.
In this case, its usually a parent or legal guardian credit card and the minor would be an authorize user. |
