You have to be 18 to have a credit card. You can get them from local banks or if you go on the internet you find dozens of credit card companys. Even supermarkets and other high street shops offer credit cards nowadays!!
To use a credit card you pay for your goods and at the end of the month you will recieve a statement. You have to pay at least the minimum amount that is stated. However it is best to pay off the full amount when your statement arrives as you get charged interest for any outstanding money owed to the credit card company. Interest which is usually ridiculously high. Credit cards are evil - don't get one! That is why so many people get into debt with them. Because they do not pay off the full amount the interest just keeps adding up: they can end up paying double the amount they originally spent all because of interest
Another option is a debit card. These are usually given to you by your bank when you open an account. You can use them to withdraw money from cah machines and you can also use them to pay for goods in shops. The only difference between a credit and debit card is with a debit card the money you take out or spend is taken out of your account almost straight away. Thus you can only spend what you have (unless you have an overdraft limit). But even then the amount spent on your overdraft is taken out of your account when funds have been added. You can have these at 16. |

You have to be 18 to apply for a credit card in the U.K. You can get one from any high street bank, many internet banks (such as egg), supermarkets (sainsbury's and tesco's).
You can use it to pay for anything, but unlike a debit card you can pay when you have no money in your account. You pay on credit, and have to pay it back. They start charging interest at the end of the month on anything that you haven't yet paid back.
Pay it all back at the end of every month and it's good for your credit rating! |

0% Apr does not exist for an 18 year old.You have no established credit.It's hard enough for a 40 year old.LOL.
Do yourself a favor and use cash or a bank card.

18, its like a debit card but u don't have money coming out of an account, you have to pay it back. i wouldn't encourage you to get one as the interest is high but ask at your bank. |

The normal age is 18 to apply and get a credit card. Most times credit card companies will start sending you offers in the mail when you turn 18. Ask your parents if they will add you as an aurthorized user to one of their accounts and see if they will take your SSN. That's what my parents did for me when I was 16 and by the time I was 18, my scores were in the 660's.
In order to use it, you go to say a grocery store. Get I'll say $40 in groceries, and when they ask method of payment you tell them credit. Swipe your card, approve the amount, and sign the paper they give you. That's how easy it is. |

18, use it where ever you like as long as they accept the type of card. Remember your pin now too. Major banks do credit cards, but you'll soon get junk mail asking you to have a credit card! Just remember to check out the APR and try not to get into debt, it soon mounts up quickly!
