get a steady job and submit a paystub with your application

everyone says get a secured card but be careful with that. i did that once and after i got it and paid the fee and had my money loaded on it..which seem just like a debit card...when i could have just used the one my bank gave me...wtf. i found out they didnt even report to the credit bureus. what i did is bought a car--wasnt a buy her pay here thing. But they had a finance company that basically approved almost everyone as long as you had your job for a while and etc.etc. anyways the interest was thru the roof like 22% well after making payments for 6months. i got offers in the mail for credit cards and got one that way...so whatever you do make sure they report to credit burreaus not all secured cards do this..or get a co signer for a small loan at your bank..like 500 bucks or somthing and as long asyou pay on time..that will build your credit eventually youll be able to get cc's etc...just dont do too much to fast. oh and every time you apply for credit that lowers your score a lil so becareful with that...

There are articles on this matter. Check it out

Get a secured card and pay on time....Whatever you do....don't just blindly fill out tons of applications, thinking that someone will accept you. Filling out a lot of credit applications at once can cause your credit score to tank.

Start out with a secured card. You deposit money into a savings account and receive a credit card with a credit limit equal to your savings balance. Use that card, and pay your bill on time every time. Once you've had this card for a while (at least 6 months), you can apply for an unsecured credit card (try someone like Capital One or WaMu that doesn't require you to have excellent credit). Don't apply for too many though, because the number of inquiries on your credit report can lower your credit score. Just take it slow, and keep paying your bills on time all the time, and in a few years, you should have a good credit score.

I share your sentiments and I know a lot out there have had this experience before.

I started with a gas card (Shell and Chevron) and my bank (Bank of America) gave me a credit card. After a year of paying my bills religiously on time, I was able to buy me my first car.

Secured credit cards/cards meant for people with no/bad credit, etc. Make your payments on time. Carrying a small balance can actually help your credit, but don't get yourself in trouble. Auto loans help build your credit as well.

To build credit you have to borrow money and make payments on time. To keep a high credit score you have to keep borrowing money and keep making payments on time.

All you get is debt.
All it's good for is getting in debt.

Your credit score is based solely on debt.
How much debt you have.
How long you have been in debt.
How often you make payments on debt.
What kinda debt you have.

It's actually an I love debt score.
You have to love being in debt and worshiping the score to get a high score and keep it.

Pay as you go. Live on less than you make and you will have money.

of course the bankers and loyal followers are gonna tell you different.

Debt free is the way to be!
