The safest way is to cut it up into tiny strips and then melt it (so that it can't be put together by dumpster divers), ring up your bank to tell them to close that account.
Many people forget to do the second part, oblivious to that fact that banks often charge a nominal fee for credit card accounts.
Don't forget to pay the outstanding balance off first! The bank may get a bit p****d off if you try to close the account without paying them... |

If you can manage your money then you don't need credit
cards. It was started by the western society, its a different
thing in India. Lots of people don't know the charges and
interest rates chargeable on credit cards. Some go deep
into spending and they lose and pay more and more all the time. |

Cut the card in small pieces. Inform the credit card company in writing that you want to cancel your credit card. You have cut your card and destroyed them and will no longer be responsible of any credit card charges or fraud upon the receipt of that letter. |

You should cut it up and get a debit card. That way you only spend what you have and there are no interest charges. |

Be careful when you close this account. If you had a reasonably high limit on this card and you paid it off, it's not a good thing to just close the account. Banks and credit institutions see this as you being unable to handle a large credit limit. It's best to shred the card and dispose of it carefully but keep the account open for at least a year, don't charge on it and then close it. It will go much better on your credit report that way. |
