chewyer24 | How to build credit? |
Currently, I'm in college trying to build my credit. I've read that the best option is to open a credit card and have it co-signed by my parents. After I do that, should I make small (like $10) or large (like $100) purchases each month? (and pay them back immediately of course) or does it not matter?
Also, I have a checking account with a bank near my school. Should I open my credit card with them? |

Open the account with your bank.
I am rebuilding my credit. Small purchases, make payments to show that I can.. now I have GOOD marks on my credit with five credit cards.
They say do not pay off balance, go a couple of months, then pay them off.. Then start over in a few. You gotta show that you can make payments. But make more then min pay. |

You should get a credit card but find a plan that will fit your budget. Also if you buy things in layaway it helps build credit. Also by having a steady job and have lived in the same community for a while. |

get two credit cards. You don't need a cosignor if you are 18. Get your first card from your bank. Use it as much as you want. I personally charge everything that I can, if it's more than $10 and sometimes if it's less. Pay it all off every month if you can afford it. If you can't, then you are buying too much. Eventually, you will get better offers, take one of those. use the new card for everything, save the other one for backup. Don't ask for credit increases, they will come on their own. I get a new credit card about once a year. I have three right now. I plan on closing one in January. That will make it easier for me to get a new one when I want it. my credit score is in the high 700's. |

you could get a personal loan and pay it off in a few months that way you could buid good credit or you could get a credit card use it for everyday purchases and make the full payment at the end of the month that way you do not pay interest and build credit. Check out www.fastcreditcardapprovals.com here you will be able to compare all major credit cards side by side on rates, fees and reward, no matter what kind of credit you have they have the right card for you |

The amount of the purchases or payments aren't the key to building credit, The key is punctuality, time, time, time, can you be on time, every time, every month.
The next biggest overlooked mistake is charging and making purchases over 25-30% of your credit amount (debt to limit ratio). if you get a card with limit of 300 dollars don't go purchase something that costs $250.00 dollars or it will negatively impact you and you then will be considered as a risk. If your limit is 300. dollars keep it about 75.00 to 100. dollars or less. |

You are right to assume that building credit starts with someone else actually trusting you enough to believe you're credit worthy. Go to the mall, and go to each department store there and open up an account at each store. Go home and rip up all but one card. Use the one card once a month and pay it off immediately. No balances!! If you can't trust yourself then leave credit alone. Once a few places see you as credit worthy, your score will gradually increase. Good luck |

the best way of getting your credit limit increased is use the credit card to the limit you have a few times ( and pay off in time)... and then call them and say that you have a requirement of a higher credit limit as you have to make transactions..
they will have a look at your previous transactions and see that you are reaching your credit limit a few times and you are paying off as well.. they will increase it for you.. |

Co-signning is a great idea, just make a few small purchases first. Then wait to see if other credit company will send you an application for your own credit card. But make sure it has no annual fees. You may consider opening up you own bank account because the bank will offer you their own credit card. If you have a bank account ask your bank for a credit card. They always have special going on. Once you established your own credit card. Charge something big that you can afford, like a new computer and make your payment on time. This will show the credit companies that you a responsible borrower. Don't help anybody borrow money under your name, not even your family member. But that is totally up to you because I had a really bad experience with it. Start building now, it will be good for your future. |

Remember. We live in an age dictated by Big Business and credit is a scam run by Big Business. For exsample, my wife and I have nearly $750,000 in the bank. We are in our late forties and have paid all our student loans. We paid cash for our car and we don't owe anyone a penny. We pay cash for everything. Yet, we have a low credit rating because we don't have credit cards and etc.... Beginning to see the light? Buy now pay later is a way to whet your appetite and a way to get you to purchase more and more and more, on credit. Hey, we don't even own a TV because we grew tired of giving advertisers and salesmen access to our home. Speaking of which, we live in a beautiful (rented) condo and the interest from our CD's pays the rent. All our friends have credit cards and homes they are morgaged to for the next 30 years or so and we watch in horror as they continue to charge things they can't afford and we worry about them, but it's not our place to speak, so we remain quiet. However, if we do buy a home we will pay cash and remain debt free. My wife and I have the luxury of banking most of our paychecks, so our savings and the interest on those savings continues to grow. Meanwhile, for the average American, his or her debts continue to rise. How many trillions of dollars in debt is America? The new American dream seems to be to get into debt early and remain in debt for life. Don't buy into it, we didn't. We each have a debit card and we only use those in an emergency. Oh yeah, we have travelled to nearly sixty countries on our yearly vacations, too. Remember, Big Business may see it as its job to find new ways to get your money, but it's your job to find ways to hold onto your money, save it and let it grow. |
