How to get items removed from your credit report if they have been on for 7 years or more?
Don't the creditors have to remove items that have been on 7 years or more?

OC1999
It depends on what you want removed?

Open accounts will not be removed.

If it is a positive closed account, that is one that you were not late on or is paid off and was current, you DO NOT want to remove that at all. This is a good thing and helps you with the length of your credit history.

If it is negative information then the negative item will be removed 7 years from the date it occured. So if you had a late payment on 1/2000 the late payment will be removed on 2/2007. If you had a Charge-Off the account will be removed 7 years from the date of last delinquency.

The exception to this is a Chapter 7 Bankruptcy which remains on your record for 10 years from date of Filing. Tax Liens remain on your report for 15 years unless they are renewed.

If you have items that should be removed then you need to send a dispute to each of the Credit Reporting Agencies that have the incorrect information. They will investigate and if it should be removed they will remove it.

Patrick
Yep you'll need to write to the credit reporting agencies and have them remove those accounts.

The Oracle
yes they do. Contact the company you received your report from and file a request for removal. Normally, their websits will have a link to the proper form.

Send a letter to the credit agency to have it removed from your report

You will need to send a letter to the credit agency requesting the removal of certain accounts from your credit. They will not do it automatically.

no.. its has to be paid in full first

A consumer reporting company can report most accurate negative information for seven years and bankruptcy information for 10 years. There is no time limit on reporting information about criminal convictions; information reported in response to your application for a job that pays more than $75,000 a year; and information reported because you've applied for more than $150,000 worth of credit or life insurance. Information about a lawsuit or an unpaid judgment against you can be reported for seven years or until the Statute Of Limitations runs out, whichever is longer.

suppose to unless they changed the law.

Once reported, it stays for 7 yrs but the creditors can continue reporting it.

You need to contct them and request that they do so. If the accounts are paid they should be willing to do it.

If you still owe them money it NEEDS (and will) to stay on your report so that people are warned prior to extending you credit.

The 7 years you are thinking of applies to law suits. They can't take you to court anymore, but they can try to collect as long as you are alive....and then from your estate after your death.
