How to payoff a $900 Dollar Debt w/ 20% APR?
I basically have a 900 dollar debt, with capital one, and my interest is way to high its like 20%, meaning I pay an extra 10-15 a month in interest.

Do you think if I call them, they will lower the interest, I've always paid on time, and usually more than the minimum. But I've had to help my mom a little bit so its higher.

Currently All I have is a little work study job, making around 100-150 every 2 weeks.

Any advice on what to do would, I would be grateful.

Best advice... when you get your tax returns assuming you do, pay it all off at once so it doesn't take years. You can call them and see if you can work it out with them but it may not be happening. Sometimes however they are actually humans and will help you out.

Call Capital One and ask them to lower your interest rate.
If they refuse, tell them you are going to transfer the balance to another credit card (with another company) that offers you a 0% APR for 12 months.

If the new APR Capital One offers you isn't good enough, then consider actually following through on that threat.

Good luck!

Lisa
Definitely call them to see about getting a lower rate.
Pay AS MUCH as you can each month.

you can certainly try that..if you have any offers coming in the mail for introductory rates that can help lever them to lower it, or you can balance transfer.

moglie
Call them and ask. Tell them you have another card that is 11% or some other % that you will have to use instead of your capital one card.

If they won't lower the rate, just pay as much as you can each month until it's paid off and then call to cancel the card.

If you pay $83 a month you could pay it off in a year. Just don't use the card. But you'll have to look at your finances to see if you can afford that amount monthly. Or more. I'm including a site you can calculate the time to pay it off based on your monthly payment and the time period you'd like to pay it off. Don't cancel the card when it's paid off though. It helps your credit to have that, you don't even need to use it. I'm assuming you are young and this is your only card, so it establishes your credit history. If you cancel it, you start over basically. Call them and try for a lower rate too, it'll make a difference.

Call them today and tell them that you'd like to stay with them, but that your current rate is prohibitive, especially given your good repayment record. Say that another company has offered you an 11.4% rate and ask what they can offer.

I would recommend paying with money. I sent a dead fich one month and they really didn't like that.

You can certtainly do so and in many cases they accept it and lowers the rate. You can also try to consult with some debt consolidation agency but as it is only $ 900 so it is a small amount so you can try it yourself also.
