Very, I have two that I use for everything every month, never exceed 30% of my credit limit and pay them off in full before the due date.
Have not paid a dime in interest in over 2.5 years. Actually made money with the cash rewards. |

I just followed 2 principles:
1. If something is not in the budget with money already allocated for it, no purchase is made. No exceptions. In fact, I have no problem checking the budget on my PDA at the checkout register and unload anything that takes me over the limit.
2. If a credit card does not pay ME a kickback for each transaction (in form of a cash reward), no transaction will be made. Credit card must pay for the priviledge of me using it, if not, why use it at all? |

Very good - they stay in my wallet no matter how badly they want to go out. They have limits, and know I am the boss... now for the serious answer. Very. Always. Had my first card at 16. I have never maxed out my cards, or missed payments, or had anybody have to hunt me down. Why? It's easy, truly. Credit card money is YOUR money. You are promising to pay YOUR MONEY. The interest and charges you will pay are YOUR MONEY. It is not extra income, it is DEBT. MONEY YOU OWE. YOUR MONEY THAT YOU OWE. People get in trouble when they think of it as extra income, play money, or someone else's money.
I learned that from my parents, who seldom used credit then paid it right off. It may be too late for some parents to pass that on, but if you are young, have young children or no children yet, you can make the commitment to teach your children that sometimes debt is necessary, but debt is never fun or free. |

Not very well. My mother told me that I wouldn't handle my finances when I would move out - and for some reason she was right. Within the first 2 years I was on my own, I put $10,000 on my credit cards. It was even worse when my hours were cut to nearly half last year and I charged half of my bills on credit. I decided to join a credit counseling service, which helped me get my payments in control. Luckily, I was able to receive a good-sized tax refund and will have nearly half of it paid off soon. I also applied for a second job. So eventually, I plan on having it all paid off in about a year and I will be more responsible. |

I love credit cards. Limited liability, rewards, convenience. I almost never carry more than 10 or 15 dollars. Debt has never been an issue since my method of payment does not affect my decision to buy (I only buy what I can afford to pay for at the end of the month). |

Now a days, you can't do anything unless you have at least one card. Can't rent a car, hotel or travel. Pay the others off, and keep one with about a $2000 credit limit on it only. I have a high net worth and I keep one credit card with a $2000 limit on it. Whenever I travel, I get the limit raised, the rest of the time, I pay cash. |
